A high scoring second period put the Lightning behind the Ottawa Senators going into the third period of Friday’s matchup. But a pair of third period goals by Ryan Malone put Tampa Bay ahead for good as they beat the Sens 6-4. The Lightning got on the board first with a power play goal by Matt Carle just a little over a minute into the game. Ottawa followed that up with four goals in the second period but the Lightning scored two goals from Steven Stamkos and Victor Hedman to keep the game to within one, 4-3. However, it was Ryan Malone’s goals in the third period in the third that put Tampa Bay ahead 5-4 before Tom Pyatt sealed the deal with a empty net goal. Martin St. Louis had two assists tonight giving him three multi-point games on the season. Before the start of the game, the Lightning had honored captain Vinny Lecavalier on his 1,000th game played on Monday. Team vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman presented Lecavalier with a silver stick during the pregame ceremony. The Lightning improved to 3-0-0 when leading after the first period this season and are 2-0-0 at the Tampa Bay Times Forum this year. Ottawa had a three game winning streak going into the game.
