Ottawa Senators handily defeat Winnipeg Jets 3-1 in preseason opener

The Senators' big producers started the pre-season with a bang as did one of their big prospects. New sniper Bobby Ryan Milan Michalek and 6-foot-5 235-pound rookie Buddy Robinson scored the Ottawa goals in a 3-1 win over the Jets at a jam-packed but mostly quiet MTS Centre Sunday night. Erik Karlsson showed Norris Trophy form and added two assists while Michalek also had a...

The Senators have announced that Jason Spezza will step into the vacant skates of Daniel Alfredsson and take over the mantle of captain. Veteran tough guy Chris Neil will take on the 'A' vacated by Spezza along with Chris Phillips. The choice of Spezza isn't surprising and was fairly widely expected after Alfredsson left for Detroit. (I even had a post on it here)....

Another was whether the newly acquired Bobby Ryan would be able to...

Travis Yost: Few Preseason Thoughts

Make sure to follow Travis on Twitter! -- I caught a fair bit of Ottawa's preseason opener against Winnipeg on Sunday night. The Senators won 3-1, if the score is of any relevance to you. Just a few thoughts on how the team looked in their first real skate. -- Erik Karlsson was moving around the ice better than what was witnessed in April and May, which has to be a relief...

Ottawa Senators beat Calgary Flames 4-2 in Saskatoon

All things being equal the Senators will have to give the vacant second line winger job to Mike Hoffman. He’s the only one of those currently battling for the spot who would need to clear waivers if they tried to send him to Binghamton. After all they’ve invested in Hoffman — as well as the offensive potential and speed he has — the Senators would be wrong to risk losing...
