On the first day of free agency, the Ducks were at the forefront of things.  Not for who they picked up, but rather for whom they traded. Forward Bobby Ryan, long time trade rumour fodder, was sent to the Ottawa Senators.  In exchange, Anaheim received right wing Jakob Silfverberg, prospect Stefan Noesen, also a right winger, and a 2014 first-round pick. Ryan, who was chosen second overall behind Sidney Crosby in the 2005 entry draft, still has two years left on his five year $25.5 million contract.  His salary cap hit of $5.1 million will give Anaheim some relief, as they have signed Ryan Getzlaf and Corey Perry to large contract extensions that were helping to max out the Ducks budget. Ryan tweeted his response to the trade on Friday afternoon: "Ottawa .... I'm coming in hot." He has scored 30-plus goals in each of the previous four seasons before the shortened 2012-13 lockout season, when he had 11 goals and 30 points in 46 games for the Ducks. Silfverberg had 10 goals and 19 points in 48 games for the Senators this past season as a rookie.  Noesen was a first-round pick by Ottawa in the 2011 NHL Draft who has been playing in the OHL. Ryan will certainly not be able to fill the shoes that departing free agent captain, Daniel Alfredsson, has left behind, but it certainly helps a little.  Alfredsson decided to go across the river to Detroit.  Seeing him wearing the Red Wings uniform next year will be....weird. Personally, I will miss Ryan, who was always happy to provide a quote or interview when asked and never offered up canned responses.  He was honest, perhaps too honest at times, with reporters, but always refreshing to hear.   I wish him the best of luck with Ottawa!
