Behind a brilliant goal tending performance from Antti Niemi, the San Jose Sharks staved off elimination with a 2-1 victory over the Los Angeles Kings to force a winner-take-all Game 7.
Niemi made 24 of 25 saves on the night.
Joe Thornton got a power play goal at 6:09 of the first period, one of four power plays the Sharks would find themselves on Sunday evening. The Sharks power play has been a cause for concern for in the series, and at just 1-for-4 on the evening, it wasn’t exactly a strength of the game, but it was enough to draw first blood.
TJ Galliardi added what would wind up to be the winning goal at 4:10 of the second period.
The Los Angeles Kings cut the lead in half on a goal by Dustin Brown at 13:53 of the second period, but the Sharks defense in front of Niemi was up to the task of shutting out Los Angeles in the final period to preserve the lead. Jonathan Quick made 24 of 26 saves for the Kings.
