Yesterday, I posted that Mats Zuccarello's KHL season ended and that it was likely the Rangers would be reaching out to him shortly.
Well, last night Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record confirmed that Glen Sather has in fact spoken to Zuccarello's agent about a possible return to the Blueshirts...
“We have already talked to Glen about it,” agent Don Meehan said in an e-mail to The Record. “We will wait to hear from him.”
Apparently, Zuccarello is looking for a one-way deal that extends two to three years. This would ensure an NHL salary even if he's demoted to the Whale.
...with the way the Rangers are going, I'm not necessarily convinced that the Rangers need Zuccarello right now. Who is he replacing in the line-up when Richards & Asham are healthy? Makes no sense for Zucc to play on the fourth line so those guys are safe. Got to assume if Miller can continue to play the pivot the way he did last night, Boyle would be expendable. However, as you ...

Marc Staal Expected to Make Full Recovery After Being Smashed in Eye by Flying Puck
NEW YORK — Doctors are optimistic that New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal will recover fully after being struck in the eye by a deflected puck.
Staal was injured Tuesday night in the third period of New York’s 4-2 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers. The 26-year-old defenseman will be sidelined indefinitely but was already showing improvement on Wednesday, the Rangers said...
Hamrlik Claim Could Effect Zuccarello Signing
Larry Brooks at the New York Post says that the Rangers’ waiver claim of defenseman Roman Hamrlik will make a contract offer to Mats Zuccarello more problematic.
Under league rules, each organization can only have 50 players under contract. Hamrlik represented the Rangers 49th player. Which means if the Blueshirts sign Zuccarello, they could be severely hamstrung at the trade...
Zuccarello's KHL Season Ends
According to multiple sources, Mats Zuccarello's KHL team Metallurg was eliminated from the playoffs today, meaning he is available for the Rangers to sign.
It has been reported that Glen Sather is interested in bringing back Zuccarello who is still Rangers property and would not have to clear waivers before signing with the team.
Zuccarello's agents were in New York...

Marian Gaborik scored a power-play goal 42 seconds into overtime, and the New York Rangers rallied for a 2-1 victory over the New York Islanders on Thursday night.
Gaborik took a feed in the high slot from Rick Nash, who got the Rangers even at 1 with 5:23 left in regulation, and fired in a shot for his eighth of the season and first in nine games.

Kreider Scores Twice in Whale Loss
Chris Kreider scored his third and fourth goals in three games since being assigned to the CT Whale, but unfortunately it wasn't enough as the Rangers AHL affiliate lost to Portland 4-3 in a shootout last night.
Kreider's first tally of the night was with the extra man, making three of the four goals he's scored on the power play. Kreider did miss his shootout attempt...
Goal Breakdown: Islanders vs. Rangers
Rangers and the Islanders played a tight game before Rangers won in OT
The Rangers beat the Islanders 2-1 in overtime, in a game that was a goaltending duel and in a game that was well contested by both teams. Both clubs had chances, both clubs played relatively well in all three zones but in the end it was the Rangers improving powerplay that was the difference. We discussed earlier...

Rangers add Hamrlik, wait on Staal
The Rangers are adding veteran defenseman Roman Hamrlik to the roster while they wait to find out the severity of Marc Staal's eye injury.
New York claimed the 38-year-old Hamrlik off waivers from the Washington Capitals on Wednesday, one day after Staal was struck in the eye by a deflected puck in the third period of the Rangers' 4-2 win over Philadelphia.

Rangers 2, Islanders 1 In Overtime
Well, it would be a lie to claim that it was the best, or best executed performance of the season for the Rangers. Sometimes you have to work with the hand you're dealt. The Rangers put in a performance tonight that the 2011-2012 team would have been proud of. The team put in a full 60 minute effort tonight, limiting mistakes and tempering frustration, which could have easily...
Keep it Rolling
That is what the New York Rangers hope to do tonight on Long Island when they take on the New York Islanders.
The Blueshirts have won three straight games and have done so with timely goal scoring, solid defense and great goaltending from Henrik Lundqvist. Tonight against the Islanders, the Rangers will need those same three things to pick-up their fourth straight win.
The team...
