The word I’m hearing is the Avalanche could still be thinking about another free-agent signing, but chances are very much there that yesterday was it for the team.
I believe the Avs still feel a need for a fourth-line center, with the loss of Phillipe Dupuis (he’s still out there and can be signed, but doesn’t seem likely). Yeah, the Avs have a lot of centers now, so it seems strange they might want another one. But I know for a fact the Avs were very much in on signing Pittsburgh center Mike Rupp yesterday, but eventually Rupp chose to sign with the Rangers. The Avs were one of three finalists for Rupp – along with the Rangers and Blackhawks.
As it stands now, the Avs have four centers – Stastny, Duchene, O’Reilly and McClement. And, Joey Hishon could well make the team too. But there is some thought to moving McClement to a wing (he played there at times late in the season). We’ll see. Everything’s all a l...
