Per the Red Wings' camps: Howe Division Standings -------------------------------------  Lindsay Division Standings 1. Detroit 1. Buffalo 2. Dallas 2. TBD 3. St. Louis 3. TBD 4. Minnesota 4. TBD With the "to be determined" at the end of today's Red Wings-Blues game at 7 PM. Detroit clinched a spot in the final as Dallas defeated Minnesota 3-2 in a shootout, and OT or shootout wins are 2 points instead of 3. Because Buffalo won the Lindsay division, they're in the final, too--and will play against Detroit on Monday night at 7:30 PM--they receive the award of keeping the other main locker room here at Centre Ice Arena, and tomorrow's practice schedule, for the moment, is as follows: Continue reading "Schedule for Monday at the Red Wings’ prospect touranment—Wings in the final"

How bright does the Red Wings future look?

The Detroit Red Wings have been one, if not the best, NHL team for the past 20 years. But will that continue with the Wings moving east and some of its main core of players 30 and above in age? I would say yes for a couple of reasons, in my opinion the move to the eastern conference will help the Wings Tremendously. In a lockout shortened season the Wings finished with 56 points...

Helm suffers another setback

DETROIT -- Just when it appears youre on the road to recovery, you suffer yet another setback, which further delays your return to the ice. Welcome to the life of Red Wings forward Darren Helm. Helm left the ice early on Friday because something didnt feel right, and on Saturday he found out he strained his groin and is listed as day-to-day. It is almost kind of comical the...

Detroit Red Wings: Greatest strengths

Recently I described the Detroit Red Wings greatest weaknesses they will need to overcome this season. So it’s only fair to look at the other end of the spectrum and analyze their strengths as well. The Magic Man Pavel Datsyuk, best player in the NHL? (Photo Credit: Dave Reginek / Getty Images) Pavel Datsyuk, do I really have to explain this one? He is the Russian magician, the...

All The Dan Cleary Talk

A lot of head scratching going on over the Flyers and Dan Cleary reaching an agreement on a contract which will pay Cleary $8.25M over 3 years plus a No-Trade Clause. The Malik Report has reaction to the signing and hockey fans voice their opinion at HFBoards. My reaction?  Cleary has been a warrior for the Red Wings but injuries over the last few years were an issue for him...

Red Wings' Darren Helm now has pulled groin; 'It is almost ... comical'

The saga of Darren Helm's health continues to stumble along tripped up these days by a pulled groin. Helm 26 played once during last season's 48-game NHL schedule undone by a sore back. Now with Detroit Red Wings training camp days from starting Helm isn't skating and he isn't cleared to take part in any scrimmages. "It is almost kind of comical the way these...

Retired NHL player Mike Modano marries pro golfer

Mike Modano played 22 seasons in the NHL, 21 of them with the Stars in Minnesota and Dallas and one with the Red Wings. Over Labor Day weekend, Modano married professional golfer Allison Micheletti, daughter of former NHLer and current hockey analyst Joe Micheletti. The same year that Modano played his first game in the NHL, 1989, Allison was born.  She’s 24 years old. Modano...

Red Wings Need To Make Some Moves

from Ansar Khan of Mlive, The Red Wings have 25 NHL players, two over the roster limit. That includes 16 forwards, two more than they intend to carry. They are $637,000 over the salary cap. Here is a look at some of their options: Place center Darren Helm on long-term injured reserve. After missing virtually the entire season due to back pain, Helm has made progress...

Red Wings evening stuff: on the prospect tournament, an incredibly busy sked to come and Fall Weiss

I dared to take a "nap day" after spending a pair of sixteen-to-eighteen-hour affairs at the Red Wings' prospect camp, and it at least appears that the Red Wings players as well as their prospects decided to take Saturday off, too. For the latter group, there's a slate of two games in two nights coming, and if the prospects don't build upon their win over...

Red Wings overnight report: looking back at the Wings’ prospect tournament championship run

The Red Wings will depart for Traverse City this morning--with half of the NHL roster taking part in a community outreach tour throughout the State of Michigan, and the rest either busing or flying up--and the team will take its physicals (and deal with their "mugshots") and participate in a charity golf tournament on Wednesday, with the main camp opening up on Thursday...

The Red Wings’ early morning skate is…eventful…

From the Red Wings' very early morning skate... Darren Helm not part of informal #redwings skate today, has pulled groin, per Ken Holland. — Helene St. James (@HeleneStJames) September 9, 2013 Cleary back on ice with the Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena. Still no decision on his plans for next season. — Chuck Pleiness (@wingsfrontman) September 9, 2013...

The Red Wings captured their first prospect tournament title, defeating Buffalo 4-2

WIth none other than Gordie Howe in attendance, the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-2 on the strength of 2 goals and an assist by Anthony Mantha, a pair of assists from Xavier Ouellet, a snipe from Zach Nastasiuk, an empty-netter from Tomas Jurco and a superb performance from Jared Coreau, who stopped 23 of 25 shots against. The Wings had never won the prospect...

Red Wings overnight report: remembering Lokomotiv, a Datsyuk follow-up, and Bryan Rufenach Day

The hockey blogger's rules for a "slow day" involve, "Don't look around too much, or you'll find more than enough to keep you busy." I should have listened to that rule, because I ended up finding a decent crop of Wings-related and plain old interesting stuff, and spent three hours doing so. Saturday marked the second anniversary of the Lokomotiv...

Red Wings’ prospects morning gnus: Wings could capture first championship; Sheahan, Jurco step up

The Red Wings prospects' big win over St. Louis last night earned the team the opportunity to compete for its first prospect tournament title when they battle the Buffalo Sabres' prospects this evening (the game takes place at Centre Ice Arena at 7:30 PM), and Grand Rapids Griffins coach Jeff Blashill was blunt about the significance of his team's potential performance...

Red Wings overnight report: have Wings’ prospects set up a championship run?

The differences between the Red Wings prospects' 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues' prospects and a game between the teams' NHL rosters involved the names on the backs of the jerseys and the venue. Otherwise, if you've seen a game between Ken Hitchcock's Blues and Mike Babcock's Red Wings, you've seen this one. There were 27 penalties, remarkably, only...

Audio and initial takes from the Red Wings prospects’ 4-1 win over St. Louis

The Red Wings' 4-1 win over the St. Louis Blues was wild, woolly and raucous, setting up a prospect tournament championship series between the Wings and Bufallo Sabres on Monday night at 7:30 PM. Zach Nastasiuk registered a goal and an assist, Xavier Ouellet had a goal and an assist, Tomas Jurco and Anthony Mantha (empty-netter) scored goals, Teemu Pulkkinen and Ryan Sproul...
