Kirk Maltby could be back with the Red Wings as soon as this week.
Maltby’s agent says that him and his client are approaching a new deal with the Wings but Ken Holland has said otehrwise stating that its only in talks and no official offer has been presented.
Because of the salary cap, young and quicker players with the same skill as Maltby comign up in the system and the fact that the Red Wings are looking for some change might not bode well in Maltby’s favor and may result him to sign a two-way deal.
If Maltby agrees with a two-way deal, he could start the season off in Grand Rapids if he clears waivers.
Maltby has spent 14 of his 17 NHL season in Detroit.
