Brendan Shanahan went on WEEI this morning to talk about his job and what he and the NHL are trying to accomplish. Good stuff, but goold ol' Shanny comes off as being Brad Marchand obsessed. From WEEI:“We had a conversation with Peter Chiarelli on the phone after the low hit on Emelin, which I didn’t think was as low as Salo. I didn’t think deserved a suspension,” he said. “There was just stuff about that hit that just sort of stunk. It wasn’t smart to be tempting fate almost as low. There was 1.6 seconds left in the period, it was in the offensive zone. “It’s not illegal to hit a guy with 1.6 seconds left. It’s not. You can hit a guy whenever you want. But there were things about that hit … it was low again. It seemed from his remarks after the first suspension that he sort of didn’t get it. So we had a really good forceful conversation that didn’t result in a fine or a suspension, but I hope we got to him.” What the **** is a forceful conversation? Is that like verb

Devils 30 Most Dominant Figures

From Rich Chere of The Star-Ledger: 1. John McMullen Having grown up in Jersey City and moved to Montclair in his high school years, McMullen was a passionate New Jerseyan. Nevertheless, he threatened to move the team to Nashville and Hamilton, Ont., when he perceived a lack of local support. Former Devils remember annual dinners for the team at his home, where priceless paintings...

Claude Julien Tries Some Positive Reinforcement, Stresses Team Concept in Effort to Find Solution to Bruins' Struggles

The Bruins are in the midst of their worst stretch of hockey this season, and it has come at just about the worst possible time, as they enter the final stretch run clinging desperately to their slim lead in the Northeast Division. After an embarrassing 6-1 loss in Tampa on Tuesday, when the Bruins matched their longest losing streak of the season with their third straight defeat...

Patrice Bergeron 'Hopeful' of Playing Tuesday in Tampa As Bruins Continue to Deal With Deluge of Injuries

Maybe at this point, Claude Julien could just save time and list the players on his roster that are still healthy. The Bruins added three more names to their ever-growing injured list during Sunday's loss in Pittsburgh, and were fortunate not to add a fourth. After arriving in Tampa on Monday, Julien offered some updates on the condition of his banged-up squad while preparing...

Veteran G Turco fares well in debut with Bruins

Marty Turco made his debut with the Boston Bruins after replacing Tim Thomas to start the second period of Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Penguins. Turco made several stellar saves among his 20, but yielded two goals as the Penguins recorded their season-best ninth straight victory with a 5-2 triumph. The 36-year-old Turco was playing in Austria prior to the Bruins signing...

Jack Edwards channels Monty Python

Boston Bruins' NESN play-by-play man Jack Edwards, who you may remember from such on-air moments as "The 12 Days Of Boston Christmas," Tim Thomas, the best goalie on earth!," "Unanimous Decision: Milan Lucic!" and "GET UP!," has found a way to top himself yet again. What's a homer announcer to do when his team's trailing 5-0 after two...

Claude Julien, Bruins Must Decide How to Use Tim Thomas Down Stretch With Marty Turco in Fold

Tim Thomas has played a lot of hockey as of late, and that may not be the best news for the Bruins and their fans hoping the B's can lean on the veteran goaltender once again this spring. Thomas' miraculous play was the backbone of the Bruins' Stanley Cup run last spring, and if they are to repeat as Cup champs, they're going to need that same Thomas between the pipes...

VIDEO: Marty Turco, Andrew Ference do some batting practice on the ice

Great video captured by @WickedBruinsFan of Marty Turco and Andrew Ference doing a little batting practice on the ice after a recent practice.Move over Baseketball, there's a new sport in town... umm... ugh... Basecky... no, how about Hockball... nevermind.Re: Ference nailing Turco with one pitch... this is exactly why hitters should be forced to wear less padding. Otherwise...

Bruins Not a Big Draw For NBC This Season

The defending Stanley Cup champion Bruins have not lit up the ratings on NBC this season. Sunday’s Bruins/Penguins NHL regular season game earned a 0.8 overnight rating on NBC, down a tick from last year (CHI/WSH: 0.9), and down 20% from 2010 (WSH/CHI: 1.0). The 0.8 overnight is the lowest of the season for the NHL on NBC. The Bruins’ four appearances on NBC this season rank...

Turco-Then and Now

I really want Marty Turco to do well, I really do. It just seems that real life keeps interfering with the coda on his NHL career. I’ve watched Turco play since his days at UM under Red Berenson. The University of Michigan hockey program at that time looked like the place where NHL caliber goalies were trained, polished, and made ready for a long career in professional hockey...

Send Billy Jaffe, Mark Mowers, Barry Pederson and Craig Janney Questions to Be Answered on 'The Instigators'

Just when the Bruins seemed to have finally turned a corner and were prepared to assert themselves as one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, they show off some of their worst hockey of the year. A pair of back-to-back wins in Toronto and then at home over Buffalo seemed to have Claude Julien and the B's back to their early season success. But a visit from Washington...

VIDEO: No hearing for Malkin's hit on Boychuk

This is at least a three gamer if a Bruin's player threw the hit.Shanahan continues to declare open season on the Boston Bruins. Only reason Boychuk got up from that hit without help is because he's one tough mother ******. Seriosuly, he's probably banging Malkin's mom right now.Bruins also continue to not demand for suspensions and therefore don't get any because...

Report: No suspension for Malkin on Boychuk hit

Evgeni Malkin will not be suspended by the league for his hit on Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported on Monday. Malkin received a minor boarding penalty in the third period after flattening Boychuk, who missed three shifts before returning to Sunday's contest. The Russian collected his 500th career point on the first of his three assists...

Welcome back Devils Fans! Im on a "back-to-back" blog swing (last nights post game review along with tonight's article). We kick off this week's installment with the beginning of a four game win streak, better yet, a game in which New Jersey would romp the New York Rangers.
