Per Arizona Sports, free agent winger Shane Doan is in New York to meet with Rangers' management and discuss a potential deal to bring him to the team. Doan had waited to see if Phoenix could clear up its ownership situation but is apparently tired of waiting. New York is his first visit as a free agent. Unless you have an irrational hatred of Shane Doan, this is excellent news for Rangers fans. It's not secret that the Rangers could use some additional scoring from the wing and getting a player of Doan's caliber this late into the summer is almost unheard of. Since the 1999-2000 season, Doan has scored at least 20 goals every single season except for 2009-2010, in which he only scored 18. Last season he potted 22 goals in 79 games and had nine points in 16 playoff games. And you have to think he could increase those numbers with Brad Richards or Derek Stepan centering him; both better playmaking centers than Phoenix had to offer.
