The good news was on the scoreboard where the Sharks kept their perfect record intact with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Ottawa Senators on a third-period goal by Brent Burns. But maybe the better news came after the game Saturday night when Sharks coach Todd McLellan said a collision that sidelined prized rookie Tomas Hertl for the entire third period did not appear to do serious damage. "He's a little bit sore but I think he'll be fine tomorrow" McLellan said of Hertl who left the game with 2:07 remaining in the second period. The 19-year-old Hertl skated through two Ottawa defenders and was cutting into the slot in front of the Senators net when he stumbled and fell awkwardly into forward Clarke MacArthur. Though replays showed contact with Hertl's head McLellan said the shoulder was the primary area of concern. Hertl notched his NHL-leading seventh goal of the season to open the scoring just 55 seconds into the game but Ottawa came back to tak...

Tomas Hertl’s incredible goal

Tomas Hertl has taken a lot of grief for his goal against the New York Rangers. Some purists and traditionalists don’t like the fact that he pulled off that move in a blowout game, calling it direspectful. Some even called for someone from the Rangers to go over and “have a word” with the Sharks’ 19 year-old rookie. I thought it was fantastic and think that the NHL would...

Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Alex Edler suspended 3-games for illegal hit

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler, a repeat offender is given a Shannaban for this dirty hit on Sharks forward Tomas Hertl who's taken the NHL by storm with his play so far this season. Hertl has scored (6g-1a--7pts) in four games this season and scored four goals in one game against the New York Rangers.  My question is; did Edler target Hertl to make a point, or is Edler...

Sharks stay hot, topple Vancouver 4-1

Tomas Hertl was kept off the scoresheet for the first time this season but it didn't matter. The Sharks skated out of Rogers Arena on Thursday night as one of four NHL teams with a perfect record after a 4-1 victory that marked their ninth consecutive regular season and playoff win over their new Pacific Divison rivals. Still Sharks coach Todd McLellan did what he could to...

Rangers waive Aaron Asham and Martin Biron

The New York Rangers are off to a simply abysmal start with a 1-4-0 record and a minus-16 goal differential so something has to change. On Monday GM Glen Sather made the first moves. Joining the waiver wire on Monday were forward Arron Asham as well as veteran backup goaltender Martin Biron. Biron being cut is a surprise even though his numbers are as bad as you'll see in the...

Steven Stamkos earns himself new groupie with hat trick

(via Getty Image) It’s going to be difficult for any team and player to top what the San Jose Sharks and, more specifically, Tomas Hertl did to the New York Rangers earlier this week, which included a 9-2 win capped off by Hertl’s fourth goal that he flipped through his legs, but the Tampa Bay Lightning gave it their best shot last night. The Lightning defeated the Florida Panthers...
