Like chum in water the San Jose Sharks swooped in and gobbled up New Jersey Devils cast off Colin White. Many, including myself expected White to retire in a Devils sweater but in a surprising turn of events the Devils waived then bought out their longest tenured defenseman. Once the buy out was official it didn’t take long for the 12-year vet to find a new home. The Sharks, in need of some additional toughness and veteran presence on the blue line inked the former Devil to a more affordable one-year, $1 million deal. White was supposed to make $3 million in the final season of his contract with the Devils. New Jersey will be charged $1 million against the cap each of the next two seasons for buying out White’s contract. The 33-year old was drafted 46th overall in 1996 by the Devils.
