Lost while everybody was crying about a guy who had no chance of returning to the Giants signing with the Dodgers was some actual good news from an actual good team in the Bay Area:
Joe Pavelski will be playing for the Sharks for the foreseeable future.
He and the Sharks agreed to a 5-year, $30 million extension on Tuesday. Pavelski, 29, was set to become one of the top unrestricted free agents next summer. Instead, the Sharks avoided any free agency drama by locking up the forward long term.
It’s an identical extension to the one Logan Couture received last month. The deals will keep both players in San Jose until at least the 2018-19 season, and as current stars Joe Thornton and Patrick Marleau inch closer to AARP memberships, the Sharks have secured the two young cornerstones they’ll be building around for the future.

"Joe has been an important part of our success over the last several years and we are excited to have him with our club for the next six seasons...

On June [...]
