Dan Boyle scored his second goal of the game with 1:02 remaining in overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night in the regular-season finale. Patrick Marleau also scored in the third period to tie the game for the Sharks. Joe Pavelski hit the inside of the post with a minute remaining. The Sharks clinched the No. 7 seed in the Western Conference and will meet the St. Louis Blues in the first round. Justin Williams and Mike Richards each scored power-play goals for the Kings, who took a 2-0 lead into the final period. The Kings will face Presidents' Cup winner Vancouver in the opening round. Neither team had a chance to win the Pacific Division after Phoenix beat Minnesota 4-1 to clinch the No. 3 spot in the playoffs. A scoring frenzy down the stretch helped both teams secure playoff berths. The Kings recorded 21 points over their last 14 games and the Sharks had 23 points in their previous 18. The NHL playoff schedule wil...

NHL: No punishment for Clowe's illegal reach

Ryane Clowes memory magically regenerated on Friday and allowed the San Jose Sharks forward to remember his illegal reach over the boards to interfere with the play late in his team's eventual 6-5 shootout victory over the Kings on Thursday. The incident was described by NHL executives on Friday as an oversight of what should have been a minor interference penalty and said there...
ANYTHING TO WIN?

Ryane Clowe interferes with rush from bench

Last night, the San Jose Sharks and Los Angeles Kings faced off in a hugely important divisional match-up which unfortunately resulted in a Kings 6-5 shootout loss. At stake for the Kings was the potential to clinch the division and of course a little redemption from last year’s postseason. The game had a very gritty, playoff-type feel to it, resulting in a combined total of...

Kings lose to Sharks, earn No. 8 seed in West

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Dan Boyle scored his second goal of the game with 1:02 remaining in overtime to give the San Jose Sharks a 3-2 victory over the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday night in the regular-season finale. Patrick Marleau also scored in the third period to tie the game for the Sharks. Joe Pavelski hit the inside of the post with a minute remaining. The Sharks clinched...

Which Sharks team will show up in playoffs?

The second half is always the time when the San Jose Sharks separate themselves from the pack. Recent history shows that. The latter stages of this year has been a struggle for them, however, as they’ve had to fight their way into the playoffs in Game 81. So which Sharks team will make their presence felt in the upcoming playoffs: the pre-season Cup contenders or the second...

Game 82, Kings @ Sharks

The Sharks will once again wear black for the playoffs.  Of course this disappoints me and I cannot understand why the team can’t get teal jerseys that are as comfortable as the black ones. I can see how the design would require more fabric or a heavier one, but figure it out already!  It doesn’t matter if you like the style of the teal ones, if you’re not going to wear them...

Blues face San Jose Sharks in first round of Stanley Cup Playoffs

Candygram! The Blues've picked the safer bet between the Sharks and Los Angeles Kings, not that there was much picking involved. The Sharks're a tough team -- not like there're any creampuffs in the playoffs -- but their goaltending can be exploited. The Blues went 4-0 over them this year, as opposed to the 1-2-1 that they did over the Kings. No one in their right mind...

The last game: April 7, 2012

The last goal in the last minute (2 seconds shy anyway) of the last game on the last day of the season was scored by Dan Boyle for the Sharks.  The pride prize was winning four in a row to end the season against their nearest divisional rivals.  In their last 10 of the season, they were 7 -3-0.  The prize in standings was to play the St. Louis Blues instead of the Vancouver Canucks...

Kings-Sharks Preview

Ryan Clowe's moment of blatant cheating could be a reason the San Jose Sharks may have a chance at a fifth straight Pacific Division title. The Los Angeles Kings wouldn't mind getting a measure of revenge on Clowe while hoping they have a shot at just their second division crown in team history. The bitter rivals conclude the regular season in what could be a winner-takes...

Quick Saturday Questions

How many shifts does Ryane Clowe take tonight before getting called for a penalty? The media keeps telling me Detroit and Chicago want to avoid playing Nashville in the first round, but they have yet to tell me who Nashville wants to avoid.  Or are they that good they can just show up at the rink and win? Do you have enough guts to answer this question?  Name the player who scores...
