Less than a week ago, defenseman Colin White was bought out by the Devils. He is now a member of the San Jose Sharks.
The 11 year veteran signed a one year contract worth $1M. He will be paid $1M for this season and next season by the Devils, and the cap hit will count against the Devils. He was scheduled to make $3M for this upcoming season before becoming an unrestricted free agent on July 1st. White has won two Stanley Cups in his career, so he’ll bring some winning attitude to a franchise that is still looking to win its first Cup. All 11 seasons he’s spent in the NHL have been with the Devils.
According to Behind the Net, White was second on the Devils last year in QUALCOMP (quality of competition), so he was often on the ice against the opposition’s best players. His numbers were not good while playing against the top competition though, so his age may be catching up to him a bit.
