from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,
• If the Blackhawks are unable to re-sign him, and I’m not saying they won’t, but if Bickell does end up in the market, keep an eye on the Montreal Canadiens. GM Marc Bergevin knows Bickell from Bergevin's days in the Chicago front office and was part of the scouting staff that recruited Bickell. I’m told the Habs covet Bickell, who would bring them the kind of size they’re looking to add for their top-six group, although I don’t think Montreal will overpay, either, with a contract that tips the scales. Still, there’s definitely interest from the Habs.
• Speaking of contracts, look for the Boston Bruins to sign star center Patrice Bergeron to a long-term extension. Bergeron has another season left on his deal but the Bruins will ink him this summer and very likely to the maximum eight years allowed in the CBA when re-signing your own players.
• Jonathan Bernier will finally escape Jonathan Quick's shadow in L.A. A source told ESPN.

After the Chicago Blackhawks had closed the game to just one, Boston Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron let this absolute bomb go on the powerplay in the third period to bring their lead back to two. This shot was absolutely perfect and couldn’t have gone anywhere else; Blackhawks goalie Corey Crawford stood absolutely no chance of stopping this shot.
Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews took home the Frank J. Selke Trophy for the first time in his career Friday afternoon, narrowly edging out Patrice Bergeron, who won the award last season.
Toews beat out Bergeron by a mere 10 points (1260-1250) in voting for the award, which is given annually to the NHL’s top defensive forward, though the Bruins center received more first-place...
Bruins forward Patrice Bergeron may have missed out on the Selke Trophy as the league’s top defensive forward, but he didn’t walk away from the NHL awards season empty-handed.
The Boston center was awarded the King Clancy Memorial Trophy as the player who “best exemplifies leadership on and off the ice and who has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution to his community...

First off, I'd like to apologize for not getting a blog post up yesterday. I was up until almost 4 a.m. the night before as I was in the hospital getting my head stapled after taking a two-hander to the head in ball hockey. A two-hander that left a nice gash in my head. I was pretty busy and tired yesterday so I didn't have...
Jonathan Bernier was drafted 11th overall in 2006 by Los Angeles (AP Photo/Mike Fuentes) 48 hours after the Stanley Cup Finals conclude, the National Hockey League’s buyout period will begin. After that point, teams will have the opportunity to buy out up to two players. By doing this, depending on the player’s age, the management [...]
By: Rich Bergeron For the first time in 34 years two of professional hockey's original six teams meet to fight for the Stanley Cup. The Boston Bruins and Chicago Blackhawks kicked off the grand finale of the NHL season Wednesday night in Chicago with both teams coming into this series with a ton of confidence and momentum. Both won their final games by a single goal: the...

The Chicago Blackhawks went from the frying pan of a double overtime series finale against the LA Kings into the fire of a triple overtime game against the Boston Bruins to kick off the Stanley Cup finals Wednesday night at the United Center. The two squads struggled to break a 3-3 tie through an exciting first two overtimes before a miraculous set of puck deflections...
A.B. Hockey Night In Canada always nails these intros. Flashing between Bobby Orr, Ray Bourque, Patrice Bergeron and Zdeno Chara sends chills down my spine. Even typing those names just now gave me goosebumps. I’m a nostalgic homer and HNIC knows that most hockey fans are as well. Hockey in Boston & Chiacgo isn’t just about the game that night or the 2013 playoffs. This match...
