Jess Rubenstein at The Prospect Park reports that Michael St. Croix (2011 - 4th) has put up four points (2g, 2a) in the first two games of the Edmonton Oil Kings series against the the Kootenay Ice. The series is currently tied 1-1. St. Croix finished the season with 37g, 55a. ...another outstanding season for a prospect I'm very excited about. Kid is a pure goal scorer. And the last time I checked, the Rangers are in need of one of those. ...while I never want to root against a Ranger prospect's success, I'm really hopeful his team gets knocked out of the playoffs, so the Rangers can call him up to the Whale for their stretch run and playoffs. That strategy has worked very well in the past for players like Hagelin and Miller. In other prospect news, Cristoval "Boo" Nieves' (2012 2nd) Michigan Wolverines lost to Steven Fogarty's (2011 - 3rd) Notre Dame in the CCHA Finals. Nieves' Wolverines did not qualify for the NCAA tournament, however, Notre Dame will be a #1 seed. Rubenstein adds that Nieves, who was named to the CCHA All-Rookie team, showcased his playmaking ability this season as well as prove he wasn't just a "one-way" player. Rubenstein expects Nieves to merit serious consideration to be the first line center for Michigan next season. ...Nieves is another prospect Rangers fans should be fired up about. Big, strong skater and great hands. Not sure what else you could ask for. And finally, Brady Skjei (2012 - 1st) and his Minnesota teammates will also go into the tournament as a #1 seed despite being upset by the Colorado College in the WCHA Final Five Semifinals. Skjei was a healthy scratch in the game. ...that's what Minnesota gets for scratching a Rangers prospect. Serves them right. Hopefully he'll be back in the line-up for the Golden Gophers first round match-up. Remember to follow me on Twitter & Facebook or e-mail me at nyrfan94@yahoo.com.
