When Chicago Black Hawks’ goaltender Tony Esposito recorded 15 shutouts back in the 1969/70 NHL season little did anybody know his modern-day record would stand for 42 years. While the shutout record of 15 has been equalled by this year’s St. Louis Blues, Esposito can relax since his personal mark is still tops. This is because he earned all of the whitewashes himself while the Blues have achieved the mark with two goaltenders sharing the load.Jaroslav Halak and Brian Elliot have combined on the 15 shutouts for the Blues so far this season and with just four games to go in the current campaign as of March 30 they have a slight chance of breaking the old mark. Elliot has nine of the shutouts while Halak has posted six of them.
