PLAYERS: Marc Staal
TEAMS: New York Rangers
Per John Giannone, Marc Staal is traveling with the club to Pittsburgh and then to Carolina and Toronto. There is still no time-table for his return, so don’t expect him to be returning to the lineup during this trip, but it is a step in the right direction.  It was reported two days ago that Staal was working out off the ice, and it appears that he has ramped up those workouts. The optimist in me thinks he can be ready for the playoffs, but I still wouldn’t plan on having him back at all this season. Tweet

No Timetable for Staal as He Increases Off- Ice Workouts

Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record reports that Marc Staal has begun increasing his off-ice workout at the Rangers practice facility, but there's still no timetable for him to resume skating or return to the line-up. ...awesome to see Staal progressing. While the Rangers would absolutely love to have Staal back in the line-up asap, they're doing the right thing by taking...

Report: Marc Staal working out off the ice

In the best news Rangers fans could possibly hope for on deadline day, Marc Staal was at the practice facility today doing an off-ice workout according to Katie Strang.  Strang was told that Staal is “progressing, but slowly.” Obviously Staal’s potential return is off in the distance, but this may be an indication that there’s hope Staal could play again this year.  That...

Photo: Newest Ranger Ryane Clowe Wearing The Broadway Hat

… Ryane Clowe said he always wanted to wear this hat after seeing it on 24/7.  Well Ryane, in only your first game as a New York Ranger your wish has come true! Amazing game from Clowe last night.

Goal breakdown: Lundqvist steals one, Rangers make it seven of eight points

The second period was the period where the Rangers finally broke through on Dan Ellis, scoring two goals in 30 seconds –one on the powerplay– and adding another powerplay goal 10 minutes later. Those three goals were more than enough for the Rangers, as Henrik Lundqvist was spectacular, especially in the closing minute of the second period. Hank eventually got beat in the third...

New York Rangers love their new look

The New York Rangers got immediate results for their late-season overhaul.Newcomers Derick Brassard, Ryane Clowe and John Moore combined to score four goals and four assists as the Rangers blasted the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-1.Those fellows had no time to get acclimated to coach John Tortorella or his system. They just went out and tore up the first-place Penguins on the ice.“Throws...

My two cents on the deadline deals

Bruce Bennett/Getty Images Wednesday was a big day in Rangerland.  As we all know by now, the Blueshirts acquired Ryane Clowe for three draft picks and traded oft-maligned sniper Marian Gaborik to the Blue Jackets for Derick Brassard, Derek Dorsett, and John Moore (with misc. non-prospects and a late draft pick thrown in).  Yesterday, Chris did a fantastic job adding some perspective...

Try doing your job coach

John Tortorella (New York Rangers) There are several good reasons why I only like reading Andrew Gross who writes the blog "Ranger Rants" for my coverage of the New York Rangers. The most important one is with Andrew you can always count on a level headed objective report win or lose as Andrew breaks the game/Rangers down intelligently. That said basically the only...

Newest Rangers Clowe, Brassard, and Moore Make Immediate Impact as Rangers Rout Penguins

On a day when the New York Rangers were busy making deals as the trade deadline approached, they attempted to trade in their inconsistencies for a winning streak and secure their position in the playoffs, starting with a home and home at Madison Square Garden against the East leading Pittsburgh Penguins.  Hours before the game, the [...]

Video- Michael Del Zotto With An Elbow To The Head Of James Neal

First a little note abou the lack of posting last night.  I was the victim of a surprise birthday party and was told, no work all play. So instead of doing what I was supposed to do last night, I sit here at 5:00am to catch-up. There was no penalty on the play and no update on Neal post-game.

Was Del Zotto's Elbow Dirty?

In the third period last night Michael Del Zotto dropped James Neal with an elbow that forced the Penguins forward to leave the game with a likely concussion... Here's Del Zotto on the hit (via NY Post)... “I knew I was going to get hit and I just tried to brace myself and reverse it. I’m not sure what happened, but I hope he’s OK.” So the question is...

Could Clowe Ask for EIGHT Year Extension?; Gabby Skates With Anisimov & Prospal

Earlier today, Greg Wyshynski at Puck Daddy retweeted this regarding the battle between the Rangers and the Canucks for Ryane Clowe's services... Canucks considered Clowe's salary demands which were 8 years 34 mill according to Botch. #wow — Taj (@taj1944) April 4, 2013 "Botch" is Jason Botchford who is the Canucks beat writer at the Vancouver...

RECAP: Gin and Jussi. PENS WIN.

The Pens and Rangers have played a carbon copy of this game late in the season for what seems like forever now. The game is tight-checking, hard-hitting, and there is bad blood all over the place.   Friday night fit the bill After two mild periods, the third period turned into a little bit of everything. While Henrik and MAF dueled, Douglas Murray killed Brian Boyle...

Game 37: Rangers at Penguins

Can the new guys (and Boyle) do it again? For the fourth and final time this season, the Rangers and Penguins will square off in what could be a first-round playoff preview. The Penguins took the first two games in decisive fashion, but the Rangers demolished the Penguins just the other day. The new guys all made a contribution, and the Penguins are still with their injury woes....

Goal breakdown: Rangers drop tough one in Pittsburgh, grab a point.

AP Photo/Gene J. Puskar The Rangers dropped a tough one to the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, 2-1 in a shootout.  The play of Marc-Andre Fleury was the only reason this game wasn’t a repeat of Wednesday night.  A truly sensational performance.  While the loss stings, securing 3 out of a possible 4 points in a home and home with the Pens is more than we could have hoped at the...

Rangers-Hurricanes Preview

The New York Rangers are trying to create some breathing room in the cluttered Eastern Conference playoff race. A meeting with the spiraling Carolina Hurricanes might be just what they need. While goaltender Henrik Lundqvist claims his hamstring injury isn't an issue, the Rangers look to continue compiling points by beating the Hurricanes for the seventh straight time Saturday...
