It doesn't appear anyone informed the Dallas Stars that their playoff chances were all but gone after trading away multiple key contributors prior to the deadline. The struggling Nashville Predators, meanwhile, aren't feeling too good about their postseason fate. Dallas continues its unlikely playoff push while seeking a fourth straight victory Friday night against host Nashville, which looks to avoid a fifth consecutive defeat. The Stars traded longtime captain Brenden Morrow to Pittsburgh on March 24 before sending center Derek Roy to Vancouver and then-leading scorer Jaromir Jagr to Boston on April 2. They fell 5-2 to Anaheim on April 3 but have since outscored opponents 13-6 during their winning streak, including 5-1 over Los Angeles on Tuesday. Despite the trades, Dallas (19-17-3) is not far behind Detroit for the Western Conference's final playoff spot. "We've lost some guys that produce offense, and some of us have to step up and contribute. It seem...

Stars recall G Nilstorp after injury to Lehtonen

DALLAS (AP) -- The Dallas Stars have recalled goaltender Cristopher Nilstorp from their American Hockey League affiliate a day after starter Kari Lehtonen left a game with a lower body injury. The move Wednesday means Nilstorp will back up Richard Bachman, who didn't allow a goal after replacing Lehtonen in Tuesday's 5-1 win over Los Angeles. Lehtonen, who missed five games...

Predators to ride Pekka Rinne through the end of the season

Pekka Rinne has always been one of the NHL's elite netminders, and has been a key cog in the Nashville Predators' machine. Unfortunately, the machine has hit a snag, and the key cog hasn't gotten the defensive support that he usually receives.  Rinne is an absolute workhorse, and if you're the backup in Nashville, you should expect to hang out on the pine a little...

Preds shut down three, prepare for new arrivals

NASHVILLE The Nashville Predators have gone with a youth movement in recent games one that necessity has brought on. In each of the last two games, a Predators forward has made his NHL debut. Austin Watson did it last Sunday and Daniel Bang follow suit on Tuesday. That number could increase to three in four games when the Predators host the Detroit Red Wings on Sunday and Filip...

Becoming “The Richard Bachman”

Right now, if you look up "Richard Bachman", you're more likely to get an article about Stephen KIng than the Dallas Stars goaltender.   And while Stephen King is an immednsely popular author, I have my suspicions he wouldn't make the cut as an NHL goaltender. Maybe Stephen King can meet us halfway and wrote a book featuring a really scary NHL goaltender.Or maybe...

Sharks-Stars Preview

The Dallas Stars have picked a very good time to match their longest winning streak of the season. That run of success, however, still hasn't been enough to get them into a playoff spot. Dallas hopes to move a step closer to that goal with its fifth straight victory Saturday night against the visiting San Jose Sharks. Despite trading longtime captain Brenden Morrow, center...
