The fans have been waiting for it for quite some time, the team has been teasing it for just as long. Fans have been getting frustrated with the “previews” of the team’s new alternate third jersey, like this one: Your favorite part of the week… here’s a *NEW* sneak peek of our third jersey this year! pic.twitter.com/tO3Is5okID — Buffalo Sabres (@BuffaloSabres) September 4, 2013   Such a lame tease garnered a lot of talk on twitter, mostly from frustrated fans demanding to see more. One of the more prominent complainers, though, was the Sabres own Center, Steve Ott. He’s been bantering back and forth with the team today about the reveal. Here’s a snippet of the back and forth between them.     Uncle, This is ridiculous! How about just releasing the jersey??? @BuffaloSabres — Steve Ott (@otterN9NE) September 4, 2013   .@BuffaloSabres this jersey unveil is taking longer than a dinner invite from @Mike6Weber #Uncle — Steve Ott (@otterN9NE) September 4, 2013     The Sabres official twitter insisted that they wouldn’t budge on the reveal… .@otterN9NE Steve, thanks again for your interest, but we have the only two jerseys and they’re under lock and key. #FortKnox — Buffalo Sabres (@BuffaloSabres) September 4, 2013   Finally, it looked like Ott had enough. With a tweet that said “Got it!”, Ott laid down a proposal for the team:     I’m sharing if you don’t @BuffaloSabres#FansWantToSeeIt pucks in your rink! Boom. I’ll give you 10 minutes. — Steve Ott (@otterN9NE) September 4, 2013   The team didn’t give in, and neither did Ott. 10 minutes later, he revealed the new third jerseys: *Breaking News… Times up! @BuffaloSabres 3rd Jersey Leaked #MiseryIsOver Can’t wait for the season to start!! pic.twitter.com/7diRxEhDBJ — Steve Ott (@otterN9NE) September 4, 2013   And here’s the back @BuffaloSabrespic.twitter.com/p8zi0I9PVM — Steve Ott (@otterN9NE) September 4, 2013     Unfortunately for the team, as much attention as the jersey reveal tease garnered from the fanbase, they’ve received tenfold back in response to actually seeing it and the fans seem to all agree. That jersey looks terrible. I think CBSSports’s eye on hockey put it best:   That sweater might surpass the Islanders’ third for the worst not only in hockey but in sports. The best way they can be described is that it looks like the knock-off jersey you buy on the discount rack at your local Marshall’s or Wal-Mart. What’s up with the different color front and back?   The idea of using the entire summer and letting the excitement build up was great, but I wonder if the team expected to get this kind of negative reaction when the final reveal finally came around? I will say the reveal between the team’s twitter and Steve Ott was clever and pretty funny, and it was a good idea for sure.
