Early this morning, the New York Post’s Josh Koshan claimed that the NHL will be taking over the New Jersey Devils in order to ensure that the Devils will make the $77 million payment the team has to pay to help defray the $200 million in arena debt the franchise is saddled with. Not surprisingly, USA Today’s Kevin Allen received a, “No way, we’re not doing that at all” denial from NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly… “I don’t anticipate either the league having to take over the team, or the team having to file for bankruptcy,” NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly told USA TODAY Sports in an email. The Devils said they had no comment. The NHL already has owned the Phoenix Coyotes for almost three years, although former San Jose Sharks executive Greg Jamison is in the process of buying the team from the league. The Goldwater Institute, a government watchdog group, is still attempting to thwart that sale because there is taxpayer money being used to keep the Coyotes in Glendale, Ariz. ...

Devils fan falls victim to coworker prank

This is a great prank. Chris is a New Jersey Devils fan, who is surely still coping with the disappointment of his team getting spanked by the LA Kings in the Stanley Cup Final. Chris works in an office with some pretty awesome coworkers who decided to give his desk a makeover when he went on vacation. These guys went all out, covering every inch of his cubicle in Kings paraphernalia...

NHL plans to take Devils from owner

Hockey is getting ready to freeze out New Jersey Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek. NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is preparing to take control of the money-losing hockey franchise in the event Vanderbeek fails to refinance the Devils' debt before a looming Aug. 14 deadline. In recent days, the commissioner's office has told potential suitors to be ready in case he moves on the...

Does Patrik Elias of the Devils have the Kings’ winning Stanley Cup puck?

The L.A. Kings have possession of the Stanley Cup, and at the end of the day that’s likely all they care about. However, the game-winning puck would certainly look nice in a trophy case right next to their massive piece of championship hardware. The problem is the Kings don’t seem to know where it is. What we do know is that the puck was on the ice as the final horn sounded at...

Kings fan takes out classified ad to mock New Jersey Devils

This “announcement” was placed in today’s Star-Ledger. And the picture, it comes courtesy of Getty’s Mark Fischel. So if you’re keeping score at home let’s recap. Today alone we’ve had word that the NHL is planning to take over the Devils, though the NHL denies it, and now a Kings fan was able to place an ad in New Jersey’s local paper mocking the hometown hockey...

Report: NHL Making Plans to Take Control of New Jersey Devils if Debt Not Paid

The Cinderella story almost came through for the New Jersey Devils. But now, instead of a Stanley Cup win and the proceeds from a great postseason run bailing out the financially struggling franchise, the NHL appears to be poised to take over the club, the New York Post reports. If Devils owner Jeff Vanderbeek can't refinance the team's debt before Aug. 14, the league will...

NHL reportedly planning to take control of the New Jersey Devils

Despite a run to the Stanley Cup Finals, the New Jersey Devils are losing money. Which probably explains their change in stance on opposing teams buying tickets for games in the Prudential Center earlier this season. Owner Jeff Vanderbeek is reportedly in the final stages of a deal for a majority stake in the team that would help pay some of $77 million in past due debt, but according...

Devils Fan's Desk Spitefully Turned Into Kings Central By Co-Workers

Courtesy of our good friend at The Royal Half, we bring you video of a Devils fan's worst nightmare, save for Zach Parise in Broadway blue. This unlucky soul, Chris, as we know him for now, had the displeasure of coming back from vacation to find his cubicle spectacularly decked out in Kings gear: Now, it probably stands to reason that Chris threw a few playful jabs around...

NHL planning to takeover the Devils?

Despite their run to the Stanley Cup Finals, the Devils and their owner Jeff Vanderbeek are having financial problems, and a league takeover of the team could be in its future.

Vacationing NJ Devils Fan will be Given a Kings Welcome Upon Return

'Chris' is apparently a big New Jersey Devils fan. And he's on vacation. And he works at a company that has no problem with his co-workers turning his cubicle into an LA Kings shrine. The paper... Full story at Bob's Blitz ~

Another Conservative Group May Chase Coyotes Legal Solution

((HT: Phoenix Business Journal/Sunnucks, Sporting News)) Mike Sunnucks is writing that Steve Voeller, president of the Arizona Free Enterprise Club, doesn’t like Glendale’s Coyotes deal (surprise) with Greg Jamison and said his group is considering a referendum on a ballot-to-be-named-later and possibly even recalling the Glendale City Council. The Enterprise initiative...
