The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Rob Rossi scared the s*** out of Wings fans. Pittsburgh Penguins GM Ray Shero apparently attempted to acquire the signing rights to Ryan Suter, but Predators GM David Poile informed Shero that the Preds want to hold onto Suter, let him test the UFA waters and circle back to Nashville: Told #pens are looking into rights to Ryan Suter. They tried similar with Hamhuis 2 years ago #nhldraft ... No on Suter for #pens ... He would not sign before July 1. Shero wants a top 2 pairing, been talking with #coyotes GM #nhldraft ... #pens have deal close with #coyotes #nhldraft This story is in progress and I will update it as necessary.

Pittsburgh, the logical choice for Parise and Suter?

If Pittsburgh wasn’t already doing a hard sell on Zach Parise and Ryan Suter’s agents, Yahoo Sports’ Nicholas J. Cotsonika just penned one for ‘em, imagining what Cotsonika called a dynasty-in-the-making team truly evolving into just that with this summer’s marquee free agents choosing what he seems to believe is the only logical place for either to play: If you’re Zach...

Red Wings Free Agency Roundtable: Filip Kuba

If the Wings strike out on Ryan Suter and can't land, say, Justin Schultz or Matt Carle, would Kuba make a nice consolation prize? Continue reading →

Red Wings News at 11: Hudler’s gone, update on Wings’ wait for Day 2

Aside from whatever the hell is happening between the Penguins and Coyotes that sprouted from Ray Shero’s unsuccessful attempt to pry Ryan Suter’s signing rights from the Predators (Suter’s bound and determined to test free agency on July 1st, so his rights are worthless)—-though the Michalek and Staal trades do mean that the Penguins want to compete for Suter and Zach Parise...

Red Wings unlikely to make any draft-day trades

Via RedWingsFeed, you and I already know that the players the Red Wings are particularly interested in signing and/or acquiring the signing rights to—like Zach Parise, Alex Semin and Ryan Suter—have either already chosen to explore unrestricted free agency on July 1st, or they’re still entertaining contract offers from current rights-holders insistent upon waiting things out...

Wild Have Enough Cash To Land Top Free Agents

from Ben Goessling of the Pioneer Press, It will start on Sunday, July 1, when a crowded field of suitors can officially begin chasing New Jersey Devils forward Zach Parise and Nashville Predators defenseman Ryan Suter—the two biggest prizes on the free-agent market and two players who could do nothing less than change the Wild’s future should they wind up in St. Paul. Making...

Red Wings afternoon news: the Pittsburgh factor and draft pick discussion

Cue the lather, rinse, repeat button regarding last night and this morning’s crop of stories regarding the Pittsburgh Penguins’ pursuit of Zach Parise and Ryan Suter, because MLive’s Ansar Khan does his best to break the situation down as succinctly as possible: As attractive a destination as Detroit would be for Suter and Parise – the opportunity to play with talents like...

Draft Day Preview: Should the Philadelphia Flyers Go After Weber, Nash, Ryan, or Suter?

Getty Images By Dustin Leed (@D_LEED) It reminds you of the plague or something. Black – and orange – death. Trade rumors sweep across the computer screens of Philadelphia fans everywhere around this time of the year, leaving most fans with visions of Webers and Ryans and Suters and Nashes dancing in their heads. And while most of the aforementioned names are extremely unlikely...

Jordan Staal rejects Ray Shero & his 10-year offer

It looks like Ray Shero may have been blowing smoke a few days ago when he said he wasn’t trading Jordan Staal. That or Staal has one hell of a poker face because according to TSN’s Bob McKenzie, he turned down a 10-year offer the Penguins made him. Breaking news: Hearing Jordan Staal turned down 10-yr mega offer from PIT. Has indicated to PIT he doesn’t plan on signing...

Penguins get their 2012-13 schedule

The Penguins and the rest of the NHL got the schedule for the upcoming year this morning. The Pens will play 82 games. 41 at home and 41 on the road. Just thought we’d throw that in there. Hopefully Ray Shero knows what he’s doing this offseason because the Pens are going to be tested early. They do get to open the year at home against the Islanders, which will be way better...

Shero’s second day of drafting not too shabby

Roger Goodell should take a page out of the NHL’s book because Gary Bettman’s boys went through six rounds of drafting about as fast as an NFL fantasy draft. It. Was. Awesome. After the Day 1 moves Ray Shero made, it was hard to think Day 2 would be anywhere near as exciting. Exciting: not so much. But Shero was impressive with his picks. His first two were a little questionable...

Trade Block: Hjalmarsson

Back in March, we stated that the Blackhawks would love to move Hjalmarsson's contract in order to make room for Ryan Suter and it seems as if those rumors have just gained steam since then with numerous sources picking up the tidbit including NHL Network. Yesterday Jesse Rogers reported that the Blackhawks were getting closer to making a deal. Of course, after that the Blackhawks...

Penguins pleased after busy, successful draft

The Pittsburgh Penguins said goodbye to one of their Big Three when they traded center Jordan Staal to the Carolina Hurricanes during the first round of the NHL draft Friday. General manager Ray Shero, however, doesn't expect it will take long to find a replacement. The Penguins acquired young center Brandon Sutter as part of the deal to ship Staal to Carolina. They also sent...

Shero goes nuts on Draft Day, trades Staal & Michalek

Ray Shero treated Jordan Staal and Zbynek Michalek like cancer patients last night because both had a wish to leave the Penguins and Shero made it happen, and the Pens fans at CONSOL for the first round of the NHL Draft loved it. A half hour into the draft, Shero made the biggest move of the night by trading Staal to Carolina for the No. 8 pick, C Brandon Sutter and D Brian Dumoulin...

The Latest Talk On Suter And Yandle

from Tim Panaccio of CSN Philly, A source told CSNPhilly.com early Saturday morning that Penguins general manager Ray Shero is working hard to get Suter’s rights from Nashville. Even though Suter has expressed specific interest in staying in the Western Conference – and going to either Detroit or Minnesota in free agency – Shero feels he has strong ties to Suter as having...
