Coach Pete DeBoer changed his forward lines around for the second game of the Eastern Conference finals against the New York Rangers. But regardless of who was playing with whom, the message was clear: get on top of the Rangers in their zone and make things tough on goalie Henrik Lundqvist.

The New Jersey Devils did both, and that's why the series is even and New Jersey has gained home-ice advantage, with the series resuming Saturday afternoon in Newark, site of the next two games.

"It's a very hard building to play in, and 1-1 sounds much better than down 2-0," said left wing/captain Zach Parise. "We're happy. We would have liked to have snuck out of here with two wins, but it didn't happen.

"We'll take 1-1."

During the regular season, the Devils won two of the three games the rivals played against each other in Newark, but one of the two victories came in a shootout and Lundqvist didn't play in that game.

"We have built some momentum," goalie Martin Brodeur said. "And now, we have to try to take that into our building and make our building a tough place to play."

After having 26 shots blocked in the opening 3-0 loss, the Devils wiped out a 2-1 deficit on tip-in goals by left wing Ryan Carter and right wing David Clarkson.

"That team blocks so many shots," Clarkson said. "It's unbelievable how many. I think we found a way to shoot it and get sticks on it, and definitely that was big for us."

Right wing Ilya Kovalchuk opened the scoring with a power-play goal but two PPGs of their own put the Rangers ahead.

The Devils came back and now this is a best-of-5 series with three of the games set for the Rock in Newark.
