This type of hit is the NHL’s greatest fear. They won’t come out and say it, but they are utterly terrified that someone will end up as a paraplegic or die on the ice from a scary hit like this. That’s why they are trying to clean up the game and get hits like the one Patrick Kaleta threw on Brad Richards out of the game. That’s why they’ve tried to implement rules and suspended players whenever possible to keep something like this from happening. In a Nationalliga B playoff game last week, 33-year-old defenseman Ronny Keller is now a paraplegic from this hit from Langenthal player Stefan Schnyder. Yes, Keller sort of made contact first when he slowed down, but he was merely bracing himself for the hit he knew was coming. Unfortunately, bracing himself didn’t work as Schnyder launched him headfirst into the boards. Keller is currently in the ICU of the Swiss Paraplegic Centre in Nottwill. According to Tages Anzeiger, the chief physician released this statement: “Following the ...

Patrick Kaleta is the symptom of a greater disease
The hockey world took to bashing Patrick Kaleta with a hint of glee after his reckless, dangerous hit on Brad Richards in the first tilt of 2013 between the Buffalo Sabres and the New York Rangers. They said what you’d normally expect when a player of Kaleta’s reputation does anything dumb. Get him out of the game, he’s useless, etc. He’s become the new WORST PLAYER EVER...
Brad Richards shooting percentage shows progression to mean likely
Progression to the mean is fun.
Brad Richards is struggling this season. Everyone has seen it, everyone has complained about it, and everyone is waiting for him to rebound. What generally goes unnoticed is that Ricahrds’ shooting percentage is an astonishing low 4.5%. That’s less than most defensemen. Richards has a career average of about 9%, so his shooting percentage right...
Rangers C Richards returns after missing 2 games
Rangers center Brad Richards is back in the New York lineup Friday night against the Ottawa Senators after missing two games following a hard hit into the boards five days earlier.
Richards, who sat out a pair of Rangers wins, skated on his own Friday as his teammates had the morning off, and felt well enough to return. No specific injury was announced, but New York coach John Tortorella...
No Concussion for Richards But Still Out; No Word on Sixth Defenseman
Brad Richards was at the Nassau Coliseum this morning, but did not practice with his teammates and will likely not suit up for tonight's game against the Islanders.
Richards told Andrew Gross at the Bergen Record that there's no timetable for his return, but he did not suffer a concussion. Richards adds that while he's still sore, it's not long term.
Arron...
Rangers C Richards out after hard hit vs. Sabres
Rangers center Brad Richards is sitting out against the Philadelphia Flyers two nights after absorbing a hard hit from behind that led to a suspension for Buffalo's Patrick Kaleta.
Richards, who played in New York's 20 games this season before Tuesday night, returned to the ice Sunday after being shaken up in the third period of the Rangers' 3-2 shootout victory over...
The Latest On Brad Richards
from Dan Rosen of NHL.com,
New York Rangers center Brad Richards returned to the ice Tuesday after skipping practice Monday due to soreness, but he did not skate for long and his status for the game Tuesday night against the Philadelphia Flyers at Madison Square Garden can unofficially be labeled as questionable.
Richards did not address the media following the Rangers&...

Brad Richards to play tonight
Per pretty much everyone (Carp’s link is here), Brad Richards will return to the lineup tonight. Richards missed two games after being Patrick Kaleta’d into the boards. It’s safe to assume Micheal Haley will be out of the lineup, although I’d like to see him play a game over Stu Bickel.

Nash, Callahan Propel Rangers To Win Over Flyers At MSG
The New York Rangers concluded their four game home stand against the divisional rival Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night. They’d be doing so without Brad Richards, still feeling some soreness after the vicious hit from behind by the Sabres Patrick Kaleta on Tuesday, which earned Kaleta a five game suspension. Michael Haley was called up from the [...]
Rangers recall Micheal Haley
The Rangers have recalled forward Micheal Haley for tonight’s game against the Flyers. This is for one of two reasons: 1) Brad Richards cannot go tonight, or 2) Haley will replace Stu Bickel in the lineup to provide better skating without losing that edge.
In 56 games in the AHL with Connecticut this year, Haley has a line of 9-12-21 with 158 PIMs.

Haley Recalled; Richards Questionable
In anticipation of a physical game tonight against the Flyers, the Rangers have recalled Michael Haley from the CT Whale.
Haley has 9g, 12a and 158 minutes in penalties this season.

Dee Karl: Isles vs Rangers: Game Day
Okay, I know you HBers will be talking about this all day long, so let's get the conversation started.
The Islanders need to snap the Rangers' winning streak, the same way they snapped the Canadiens. This is a must win game for the Isles if they want to bring the fans back to the Coliseum.
Both Brad Richards and Marc Staal are out of the line-up indefinitely, but that...
Power Play Rolling
After showcasing what could have been the worst looking power play in the history of the NHL the first 18 games of the season, the Rangers have finally shown some life with the extra man and it's translating into victories.
They have scored at least one power play goal in each game of their four game winning streak, going 5-for-15 in that span. They have also climbed out...
