Caps place D Green on long-term IR

The Washington Capitals have placed defenseman Mike Green on long-term injury reserve with a groin injury. The move allows the club to get relief of his $5.25 million deal. Brouwer's hat trick lifts Capitals

Troy Brouwer got his first career hat trick, and Alex Ovechkin also scored Friday night as the host Washington Capitals grabbed a 4-3 victory against Tampa Bay. It was the Lightning's sixth consecutive loss. The Lightning's next game is at home Sunday afternoon against the Penguins. Brouwer scored in each period for the Capitals, who have won six in a row at home and six of eight overall.
