Mattias Tedenby scored in the first period, and Eric Gelinas added a goal in the third to lead the New Jersey Devils to a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers on Monday night in the preseason opener for both teams.
Tedenby, fighting for a spot on the roster, scored 10:20 into the game off a fine pass from Rostislav Olesz. Gelinas fired in a hard slap shot 31 seconds into the third to make it 2-0.
New York's Dominic Moore, making a return to hockey after taking a year off, scored on a backhander with 15:01 left.
Cory Schneider made his Devils debut and stopped all 22 shots he faced while playing the first two periods.
Henrik Lundqvist allowed one goal and made 15 saves in 30 minutes of action for the Rangers.
BEST OF MAXIM
Cory Schneider is looking to turn an old stereotype on its head. Pure Hockey, a store which specializes in hockey gear and equipment on the East Coast, called on the New Jersey Devils goaltender to show what it's like to join him on a shopping trip for new hockey equipment. Let's just say you'll need some patience. Yes Cory, those pants do make you look fat...
The Devils played their first preseason game of the 2013/2014 season and there were certainly some positives to take away from that game.
Cory Schneider looked great in goal. His positioning seemed very good for September. I know that teams are going to get better chances against him as they learn their timing but Scheider looked a lot better than I thought he would since...
There's still a long ways to go in camp but the New Jersey Devils have already named their starting goalie for opening night and coach Peter DeBoer is sticking to his word; it will be Martin Brodeur.
Before camp began DeBoer noted how he has two No. 1 (well a 1 and 1A) goalies in Brodeur and newcomer Cory Schneider but for now the job is still Brodeur's. This keeps with...

Apollo Global Management LLC (APO) co-founder Josh Harris said Newark’s Prudential Center was a more important financial piece in his purchase of the New Jersey Devils than the hockey team itself.
Harris and David Blitzer, a New Jersey native and senior managing director of Blackstone Group LP, purchased the...
Cory Schneider’s debut in goal for the Devils couldn’t have gone much better.
In a 2-1 preseason victory over the Rangers at Prudential Center Schneider stopped all 22 shots he faced in the first two periods.
“It’s always nice to get a little action make some saves and winning never gets old” Schneider said. “It is preseason but that was probably one of the most spirited...
I hate to say it, but the whole dang hockey world called it. When the New Jersey Devils let Ilya Kovalchuk "retire" to avoid a massive NHL-KHL showdown and get that huge contract off the Devils' books, it was assumed that Damien Brunner would be joining the Devils.
And, wouldn't you know it, via RedWingsFeed...
Damien Brunner invited to #NJDevils camp...
Per Andrew Gross, the Rangers have released goaltender Johan Hedberg from his professional tryout. Hebderg was brought in while Martin Biron was out for personal reasons, but never got a chance to play in a preseason game. Both Biron and rookie Cam Talbot were great in their preseason game(s), earning more time. Unfortunately for Hedberg, he was the odd-man out.
Gross also notes...

Less than a week into training camp, the Devils have decided to bring in speedy center Damien Brunner as an unsigned tryout, a source has confirmed.
The Swiss-born Brunner, 27, had 12 goals and...
Damien Brunner has accepted a tryout offer from the New Jersey Devils. Last year as a rookie in the NHL, Brunner had 12 goals and 26 points in 44 games with Detroit. Brunner was reportedly close to signing with the Devils earlier this summer, but New Jersey went out and signed Jaromir Jagr instead. In 2011–12, Brunner had 60 points in [...]
