In case you missed the news – and I did at first because, well it was a day off and I was actually taking a nap when it happened (hey, I need a little sleep now and then, get off my @!#) – the Avs dealt Kyle Quincey to Tampa Bay today for forward Steve Downie. TB then flipped Quincey to Detroit for a first-round pick. First off, why I think the Avs won the deal: Because Downie is exactly the kind of player (i.e. forward) this team needs more of. The Avs have some good talent up front, yes, but they have too many guys who are too easy to play against. Plain and simple. Downie is anything but easy to play against. Here is a quote relayed to me tonight by top-notch Rogers Sportsnet hockey TV and radio analyst Jeff Marek.
