According to Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News, the Red Wings have placed goaltender Joey MacDonald on waivers in hopes of sending him to Grand Rapids of the AHL.
The 33-year-old MacDonald has been battling back issues since March of last year when he suffered a bulging disc and has since become more expendable with the addition of Jonas Gustavsson in the offseason and the emergence of Petr Mzarek this past weekend.
MacDonald however has been on the ice practicing regularly the past two weeks and appears to be healthy writes Kulfan.
Over the course of his career MacDonald has accumulated a 31-48-13 record with a 3.04 goals-against average and .903 save percentage.
