Welcome to another weekend. When the weekend comes, so does the fightin’. At least, at my family get-togethers it does.
Ahem. Without further adieu, let’s drop the gloves on this week’s version of Fisticuffs.
We’ve got some ring-tailed snorters this week. Let’s start with Scott Thornton and Darcy Hordichuk squaring off in this major league tilt. This isn’t your standard, run of the mill four second bout where one guy sits down and the other guy starts wailing on a dead fish, it’s loud and long. Both Thornton and Hordichuk trade bombs until the zebras step in. Slight edge goes to Thornton at the end, but not by much.
John Erskine of the Capitals is extended a how-do-you-do by Atlanta’s Eric Boulton, and it’s obvious that these gentlemen are ready to tussle. Similar to the Thornton-Hordichuk fight, this one is a three alarm affair. Look for the giant right from Erskine at 00:27 of the clip. Both Erskine and Boulton trade haymakers until about the fifty-five second mark of the clip, when Erskine pushes Boulton into the boards. Grade A stuff from two heavyweights.
Now that we’ve had two evenly matched get-downs, we’ll slow things up with two heavyweights. Edmonton’s Steve MacIntyre stands in against New York’s Derek Boogaard. Being an Oiler fan, the only real pleasure I get out of Steve MacIntyre is when I get to watch him throw. Unfortunately for me, it’s apparent that Derek Boogaard wins this dance. MacIntyre gets maybe two short jabs in, but Boogaard has six or seven tall rights. Full score to Boogaard.
Thanks for stopping by for this week’s edition of Fisticuffs. I had a few submissions for the Erskine fight (good choice) through a couple of readers at my Twitter account @OilOnWhyte. Drop a comment in the box if there’s anything in particular that you’d like to see. Don’t forget to visit OilOnWhyte.com, where we’re quite good at wallowing in our tears after an Oilers game.
