Breaking down Ilya Bryzgalov
On June 6, 2011 the Philadelphia Flyers acquired the rights to goalkeeper Ilya Bryzgalov, and promptly signed him to a nine-year, $51 million contract. For the Flyers, the move seemed to be a transaction that could provide Philadelphia with their missing link to a Stanley Cup Championship. Eight months later, after some erratic play and even more erratic behavior, the only thing for certain in Philly is that the man they signed to this massive contract is merely a missing link.
Let’s call a spade a spade, the Flyers are in good shape as a team, they will be in the playoffs, and they are a legitimate Stanley Cup contender. When Bryzgalov is sharp, this is a team that is very difficult to beat. Has Bryzgalov been a complete bust? It’s hard to say that when...

Hartnell, Flyers top Maple Leafs to gain important home win
Let me start with this important statement: I hate this time of year.
Pro football is over and baseball has not started yet.
Also, the Flyers play better with Bob Bobrovsky in goal.
Scott Hartnell scored two first-period goals and the teams dragged a 2-2 tie going into the second period.
Claude Giroux and Brayden Schenn scored 1:14 apart in the second for a brief two-goal advantage...
Flyers Defense Continues To Struggle In Loss To Rangers
Game Notes:
The Flyers have lost their last seven games to the Rangers (0-6-1). It’s the longest losing streak since they lost 10 in a row from Nov. 28, 1971 to Jan. 14, 1973. That same streak extended into a 13-game winless streak (0-11-2) that lasted through December 26, 1973.
The Flyers fell to 4-8-1 this season in games that start before 7pm, and allowed at least...

The Philadelphia Flyers claimed to be satisfied with their play after Tuesday’s 1-0 shootout loss to the New York Islanders. Following the game, the sentiment was clear: that level of effort will win a lot of games.
At the Wells Fargo Center on Thursday night, the Flyers proved their point.

Fantasy Hockey: Goalies To Add and Start – Halak, Miller, Ward, Hiller, amd Bryzgalov
The NHL is past its halfway point and headed down the stretch towards the playoffs. This is when goalies are relied upon the most and rise to the top of their game in a push for Lord Stanley’s mug.
Here is a look at a few goalies who had rough starts, which may have sent them down to the waiver wire in shallower leagues or at least earned them a seat on the bench.

Same story, same result. And Kimmo Timonen, for one, has had just about enough.
