Puck Drunk Love:
Thomas Vanek is looking to silence the trade rumors which have been attached to his name for what seems like an eternity. In an interview with WGR 550, Vanek stated that he hasn't requested a trade from the Buffalo Sabres. In fact, Vanek appears content in Buffalo and is open to the idea of signing a new deal with the Sabres in the future.
No, I never asked to be traded so when people do mention it, I’m surprised. Did I think I was going to get traded, no because I never once went in there and said I don’t want to be here. I said, ‘Right now I’m not looking for an extension, but not saying that I wouldn’t want one down the road, but right now I just want to see where it goes’. We’re a young team, we’re rebuilding and those are my words, so I’m keeping my options open.
Vanek was pretty blunt with his comments. He added that he isn't thrilled about going through a rebuild, but he's open to it and he wants to see where it leads. If it leads somewhere promisi...

If I am reading this right, it would appear, at least from my vantage point, that Thomas Vanek might not be all that happy about the Sabres being in a rebuilding year...
Will Thomas Vanek be a member of the Buffalo Sabres for a while longer or won't he? Inquiring minds want to know.
Since it became clear that the Sabres were finally going to cut bait on some of their more established players and go the rebuilding route -- made clear when Jason Pominville was traded to Minnesota last season -- people have wondered about his future in Buffalo...
Contrary to urban legend and internet hockey fiction, Thomas Vanek never, ever approached Sabres GM Darcy Regier and demanded a trade out of Buffalo. It never happened. I never will happen. Vanek is content to play out the final year of his 7 year, $50 million contract with the Sabres. He and his agent, Steve Bartlett, have been up front and transparent since the end of last season on...
"I would like to have at least some say in where I go just because Buffalo is all I've known and I have a life outside of that." - Ryan Miller
With all due respect to the optimists who are big fans of the man who has been the franchise goaltender and face of the Sabres for quite awhile, the above quote doesn't read like a guy who is "not closed off to the...
Ryan Miller was simply brilliant at the 2010 Winter Olympics. He put the U.S. in a position to win silver and came within a goal of gold.
The Buffalo Sabres goaltender was named tournament MVP after making 139 saves on 147 shots over six games. Not a bad, little run.
His Olympic journey, however, may have ended there.
Even though he's just 33 years old, potentially in the...
Earlier this morning, I gave you my take in the pressure points that I feel that Sabres RFA center Cody Hodgsonâs agent is likely using to leverage a long term contract from Darcy Regier.
My points were:
1. Hodgson Is Buffalo's #1 Center
2. Vanek Factor
3. Point A Game Potential
4. Known Quantity Vs. Rookies
Earlier this afternoon, I had a chance to speak directly...
I've heard it said recently that Sabres center Cody Hodgson doesn't have any leverage in his quest to earn a long-term contract with the Buffalo Sabres. Hodgson is in a unique negotiating position right now. Don't let his age fool you. Hodgson comes as advertised. When the Vancouver Canucks drafted him 10th overall in the 2008 NHL entry draft, they did so with an eye...
Sekera and Nathan Gerbe are settlung in to their new home in the Research Triangle.
Sekera was traded for Jamie McBain on June 30th. Gerbe was signed a free-agent contract with the Canes last mont after he was unceremoniously bought out by Buffalo.
Lindy Ruffâs Buffalo lineup. But Ruff was fired in February. A decision was made to reshape the Sabres, who failed to make...
