Thoughts from the Deep: Cheechoo back to San Jose?

This is by no means even a rumor, simply pure speculation, but what if the Sharks resigned Jonathan Cheechoo? Think about it: Cheechoo was included in the Dany Heatley trade because the only way the Sharks could afford Heatley was to rid themselves of Cheechoo's ludicrous contract. After acquiring him the Senators learned what we in San Jose already knew, Cheechoo is simply not longer the same player who scored 56 goals back in 05-06As a result he has been placed on waivers, where, if no one claims his laughable $3.5 Million contract he will become an unrestricted free agent. The Sharks, who are cap strapped as it is, should look to their old winger as a very affordable answer on the 3rd or 4th line. Ottawa is now on the hook to pay Cheechoo his $3.5 Million salary next season but he is free to sign with any team he likes and likely at a league minimum, or close to it, salary to boot.Cheechoo has always been a hard worker who simply worked himself into chronic injuries.
