The Florida Panthers acquired what they hope will be a promising addition to their scoring lines, landing winger Niclas Bergfors from the Atlanta Thrashers in exchange for veteran forward Radek Dvorak.
Minor league defenseman Patrick Rissmiller will be joining Bergfors heading to Florida.
Bergfors, 23, has 11 goals and 29 points in 52 games this season. He should considerable promise in his NHL debut last season, with 21 goals and 44 points split between the Thrashers and the New Jersey Devils, from whom they acquired him midway through last season.
Unfortunately he failed to improve as hoped, and was a times a healthy scratch this season. Panthers management are gambling he'll sort out his consistency issues as he matures.
He's eligible for restricted free agent status this summer and earned $900K this season.
Dvorak, 33, is in the final year of his contract and will be eligible for UFA status this summer.
