Last night I posted some of the PHWA voting totals for the NHL Awards that the Senators’ players and Paul MacLean were finalists for. Well, as it turns out, a few of Ottawa’s other players also received some votes, so I’m going to take the time to acknowledge these votes.

GM Bryan Murray was rewarded with two second place votes and four third place votes for the job that his staff did retooling the Ottawa Senators. It’s unfortunate that the PHWA voting process was conducted prior to the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs, otherwise Paul Holmgren may have received more credit for turning the Los Angeles Kings into a Cup winner.

Alfredsson (1-2-3-2-6), Karlsson (1-0-0-0-0) and Spezza (0-0-0-1-0) all received votes for the Lady Byng Trophy. Spezza also finished sixth (0-2-14-11-17) in Hart Trophy balloting while Karlsson finished eighth (0-0-4-7-11).

Jared Cowen received some fifth place votes for the Calder Trophy while Colin Greening didn't receive any support.

Perhaps the biggest surprise of the evening was the third place vote that Filip Kuba was given for determing the NHL's First and Second All-Star Teams. Well, unless you're talking to Jack Edwards...

Erik Karlsson over Shea Weber for the Norris?A bad day for the argument that the Professional Hockey Writers Association's has a clue.

Or Stan Fischler...

#Zdeno Chara deserved the #Norris Trophy. #Erik Karlsson only knows offense. Someday he may learn defense. The kid was a playoff disaster.

Sadly, they're not alone in this opinion. Yesterday I poked fun at the five unknown individuals who had Karlsson ranked fifth on their ballots but a reader named Michael emailed in and tabulated the number of total first place votes - determining that 149 PHWA ballots were cast. In other words, totalling Karlsson's votes, he only received votes on 143 of the 149 ballots. Six people left him off their ballots. Put in perspective, Shea Weber appeared on 146 ballots and Chara 148.

Still in the Nash Sweepstakes?

According to the Team 1200's AJ Jakubec, who's in Pittsburgh along with Lee Versage covering the event for the radio station, says that the buzz is that the Senators are still in on Nash.

The suggested asking price will apparently involve some combination of Bishop or Lehner, Nick Foligno, Mika Zibanejad, Patrick Wiercioch and this year's first round pick. Puke.

I would link to Jakubec's tweets but apparently Twitter's site across platforms is down.
