After Saturday night’s win against Winnipeg in which Matt Halischuk scored the first goal of the game, Nashville Predators head coach Barry Trotz heaped praise on Matt Halischuk for his ability to respond to being scratched out of games.

“That’s why I scratch him – because I know that every time I put him back in he’s going to score,” Trotz tongue-in-cheekedly told the media.

“He’s one of those guys where it’s always about the team and never about (himself),” Trotz added. “He just goes out and works. He has foundations that are very strong and a diligent work ethic. That’s why I think he has success when he is in and out of the lineup.”

Halischuk had been a healthy scratch in the Predators’ Thursday night loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins in Pittsburgh. Added back into the lineup on Saturday, however, Halischuk collected his first goal since January 31.

On Sunday night, the Predators traveled to Chicago. Again, Halischuk got the scoring going, potting his 14th of the season on Blackhawks netmind Corey Crawford.

Halischuk would add an assist on Francis Bouillon’s third period goal, giving him his fourth career multi-point game.
