The Hockey Herald:
It was a big day in the NHL today as we all know. Big name players like Brad Richards and Hossa were both delt. Richards near the start of the day, where as the Hossa trade came down to the wire.
I have compiled a list of what I think are the winners and losers of the day.
Winners:
- Dallas. They have a franchise player in Richards and what they gave up was minimal.
- Atlanta. Especially if Hossa doesn't sign. Plus they got a lot of return for Hossa.
- Maple Leafs. Fletcher was brought in to get some draft picks and he did the job with what he was able to trade.
- Phoenix. Absolutely took the Rangers for a ride.
- Columbus. Half-decent return for expensive old, potential non-keepers.
Losers:
-Montreal. Lost Huet for close to nothing. Even the Leafs got more for Hal Gill.
-Ottawa. Didn't address their goaltending situation and lost the race for Hossa.
Possible loser here is the Penguins. They gave up a TON for Hossa and if they can't sign him they ruined the core getting rid Armstrong, plus a first. The danager lies in the fact that the Penguins are closing in on another situation like the Lighning just got out of. If they indeed sign Hossa from what I'm hearing, it will be for 9-10 million. Add to the fact Malkin will be ...............
