Despite losing to Boston 3-2 in a shoot out earlier this week, Toronto Maple Leaf’s head coach, Randy Carlyle was quite pleased with his team’s effort. ”I thought we competed in the game,” he said in the post game press conference.
From what I saw in the game, I quite agree, despite the fact the Toronto Maple Leafs gave up a 2-0 lead. After all, they pushed shoot out to six rounds.
Ironically, Carlyle was not too happy with his team’s performance the very next night against the Florida Panthers, in which the Leafs won 3-2.
Joffrey Lupul scored two goals in the Florida game. Backup goalie, Ben Scrivens apparently was quite busy in net, making 40 saves.
The Leafs next opponent would be the Carolina Hurricanes. A team in which they are 0-2 this season.
Toronto opened the scoring in the first period. They jumped out to a 2-0 mid-way through the second (period).
Minutes later, the Leafs made, what could of been a costly mistake.
While short-handed, Carolina’s Eric Staa...

As the Maple Leafs take a four day respite from their daunting schedule, they continue to enjoy a high level of success, having earned points in eight straight games over the last two weeks, moving into a fifth place tie with provincial and division rival Ottawa with a 4-0 shutout victory on Saturday and opening up a nine point gap between themselves and the ninth place New York...
The Maple Leafs recent success has given them a slight cushion in the race for an Eastern Conference playoff spot, but GM Dave Nonis may believe that his club could use some bolstering to guarantee the end of the Blue and Whiteâs eight year playoff drought.
