Darren Dreger at TSN made some waves on the radio today when he said this about John Tortorella's future with the Rangers should his team be eliminated quickly by the Bruins... "If the New York Rangers were to be eliminated in short order by the Boston Bruins, is there a chance John Tortorella is replaced? Yes there is a chance, absolutely. No question about it. Glen Sather made the big trade, moved Gaborik out, obviously prior to that they found a way to acquired Rick Nash, they not done yet building this team into a true Stanley Cup contender but is John Tortorella the right coach, that management group for sure will have that discussion at the end of the season, whenever the Rangers season ends." Listen to Dreger by clicking here. ...listen, Dreger has a lot more contacts than I do (I have zero) and knows the inner workings of all the NHL organizations, but I don't buy this for a second. Yes, as we've gone over ad nauseum on this blog, Tortore...

Rangers Coach John Tortorella freaks out on referee Dan O’Halloran

New York Rangers coach John Tortorella lost his temper on referee Dan O’Halloran after the second period ended when a punch to captain Ryan Callahan’s head was not called.  You can’t read Tortorella’s lips too well, but you can tell that it is an f-bomb laced tirade and he is clearly not asking O’Halloran to grab a beer with him after the game. John Tortorella speaks after the Rangers Game 2 loss to the Bruins

Video courtesy of our friends at Bruins Daily, stop by and visit their blog, you won't be disappointed. This is one of the longer press conferences you will probably see from New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella. This post game presser lasted a grand total of 02:14, that's pretty impressive if you ask me.

Tortorella- “We Need To Go Win A Game”

John Tortorella post-game today after losing to the Boston Bruins 5-2 and going down in the series 0-2.     Tortorella felt the goal early in the 3rd period by Brad Marchand is one they cannot afford to give up.  The goal put the Bruins up 4-2 and can be viewed below... John Tortorella explicitly describes Ryan Callahan's goal

During Game 2 of the Rangers-Bruins Eastern Conference Semifinals series on Sunday, NBC's Pierre McGuire asked Rangers coach John Tortorella how to describe Ryan Callahan, who scored a goal in the first period to tie the game at one goal apiece. Tortorella's response was brief, and extremely descriptive. "Well right now, that's a HUGE goddamn goal he scored in...

No Indication From Rangers Organization That Torts' Job In Jeopardy

While there has been wild speculation that John Tortorella could be fired if the Rangers are swept or lose in a short series to the Bruins, Jeff Klein at the New York Times says that scenario doesn't seem likely... "There have been no indications from the Rangers’ organization that Tortorella’s job is in jeopardy, as there were in the weeks leading to the firing...

Rangers looking for 2nd straight 0-2 comeback

Don't judge the New York Rangers by the scores of their two losses to the Boston Bruins. According to coach John Tortorella, the Rangers played much better in the Game 2 blowout than in their overtime defeat in the series opener. The bottom line is this: for the second consecutive series, New York has dug an 0-2 hole on the road and will need to rebound quickly at Madison Square...

Bruins rally, push Rangers to brink of elimination

John Tortorella's message isn't going to change even though his New York Rangers are in an even more desperate situation than before their latest loss to the Boston Bruins. The margin of error went from slim to none in an uncharacteristic home loss that put the Broadway Blueshirts on the brink of elimination. New York squandered a one-goal lead in the third period and lost...

Caught On Video

Tortorella on Hagelin: “He Stinks”; Hagelin: “I don’t stink”

Rangers coach John Tortorella (courtesy of meetthematts.com) When I was a kid, one of my favorite movies to watch with my dad was “A Few Good Men” with Tom Cruise, Demi Moore, and Jack Nicholson. In the movie, Nicholson spouts off many classic lines, but one in particular fits the situation going on between John Tortorella and whoever else he decides to put in the news; “What...

Brad Richards a Healthy Scratch for Rangers in Game 4 Against Bruins

Brad Richards won a Conn Smythe under John Tortorella in 2004 when the two were teaming up to win a Stanley Cup with the Tampa Bay Lightning. That now seems like a very, very long time ago. The two are now in New York, of course, and Tortorella will go into Thursday’s do-or-die Game 4 against the Bruins without Richards. The head coach has decided to make Richards a healthy scratch...

Power Play Woes Are on the Players

I know, not another 'the power play sucks' blog post, but when the Rangers are 2-for-35 with the man advantage, that kind of futility just can't be ignored. Were they better yesterday? Sure. But when you're in the playoffs moral victories mean nothing to me. This abomination of a power play is killing the Rangers in this series. Every team in the NHL gains...

Despite playoff struggles, Brad Richards won’t be bought out until next summer

New York’s fourth line center would cost an extra $6 million to buy out this summer It’s growing increasingly difficult to believe that this is just an off year for Brad Richards, that the 33-year-old will bounce back with the benefit of a summer to clear his head and a full John Tortorella training camp in the fall.  There are just too many signs that the former star center...
