North Dakota is a college hockey powerhouse. The school has produced some great players in the NHL, including Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews and St. Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie. But it’s a backup goalie who made headlines this past weekend. Tate Maris is a senior goaltender who has been suiting up for the past four years. His Twitter bio jokingly reads “Goalie and active door opener for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux”. But this past weekend in a 6-0 win over Michigan Tech in the WCHA Tournament, Tate got a chance to finally step onto the ice for UND. It was special for everyone involved. Tate even got to make a save at the end of the contest. He summed up his feelings about his moment afterwards on Twitter. What a blessing to get the chance to finish out with the guys. I got to live out a dream and I can’t thank every fan and friend enough! — Tate Maris (@TAT3MARI5) March 18, 2013 Four years. Four minutes. Well worth it.

Corey Crawford made 18 saves...
