The Bruins brass were sufficiently concerned about the club’s recent lack of offense that they recalled center Ryan Spooner from AHL Providence in the hope the 21-year-old might provide a spark last night against Anaheim. “I think we need a little bit more speed right now and we need a little bit more offense in our game,” said coach Claude Julien an hour or so before the game. “Sometimes a new face in the lineup can certainly help bring that. “Right now what matters to me is that we find solutions to fix what we think needs a little bit of fixing to make us better.” Well, a few hours later, Julien & Co. could hardly claim that they had found the needed fixes — even if the B’s did eke out a 3-2 win in a shootout against the Ducks. Spooner, by the way, handled himself quite well in just his fifth NHL game, showing good quickness and smarts, and earning his first big league point on an assist on Carl Soderberg’s first NHL goal. If the offense remained mighty thin, the B’s did d...

Injury report: Johnny Boychuk and Loui Eriksson

Johnny Boychuk via csnne.comThursday night’s win over Anaheim came with a big loss. Being considered day-to-day, Johnny Boychuk left in the second period of that game with an undisclosed injury. Boychuk crashed hard into the boards and after getting off the ice wasn’t able to return to action. This led to big time minutes being played by the younger group of the Bruin’s...

Boston Bruins win despite trick or treat play on Halloween

Jarome Iginla was the only player in the shootout to score, beating goalie Jonas Hiller high glove side. (Photo credit: AP Photo) After one period, the Boston Bruins (8-4-0) looked like their pregame meal was a pillow case full of candy.  Boston’s play in the first was anything but sweet however, as the entire team was sluggish and it showed in the way they forechecked, backchecked...

Berkshire Bank Faceoff: Johnny Boychuk Doesn’t Make Trip, Won’t Play Against Islanders

Johnny Boychuk took an awkward tumble on Thursday night and it will cost the Bruins defnenseman at least one game. Boychuk did not travel with the team to Long Island his weekend, and he will not play on Saturday night in Boston’s game with the Islanders. Bruins head coach Claude Julien says the decision not to bring Boychuk to Long Island was a last-minute call. The Boston blue...

Buffalo's John Scott suspended for 7 games

The NHL has given Buffalo's John Scott a seven-game suspension for his hit to the head of Boston's Loui Eriksson back on October 23rd. The league determined that Scott's hit to Eriksson's head was severe enough to warrant a large punishment even though the forward has no previous history of NHL discipline. Scott has already served three games while waiting for his...

Scott suspended seven games for hit on the Bruins Loui Erikson

In my opinion, this suspension, isn't long enough. I would like to see this be a 10-game suspension. Just for the record, Loui Eriksson hasn't played since October 23rd, because he's suffering from a concussion. Also, during his NHL Career, John Scott has scored a grand total of (1g-4a—5pts) in 187 NHL games. Not known for his offensive prowess, the Sabres' pylon...

Pens/Bruins Recap by @pghgirl15222

The Pittsburgh Penguins stared down some of their demons on Wednesday during a 3-2 victory over the Boston Bruins. There were times during the game I wondered if the refs had eyes or knew what a penalty was as both sides got away with a lot of questionable play, but the Pens were able to capitalize on their opportunities and come away with the victory. The truth is for at...

RECAP: Game 12. Pens win 3-2.

Got news for you: this is a rivalry. You see the definition right there. You can always blur the lines around what the word “rivalry” means like you can do with “elite,” “dynasty,” or “bisexual.” The Pens have the tried-and-true rivalries with Philadelphia, Washington, and the Rangers, but at this moment, the Bruins are the gatekeepers, and the Pens have to get past...

Bruins-Islanders Preview

Keeping the puck out of their own net continues to be a problem for the New York Islanders. It certainly has been in recent games against the Boston Bruins. The Islanders overcame those defensive deficiencies for one game and will try to win two straight for the first time this season Saturday night against the visiting Bruins. A determined effort by the Islanders on Friday at...
