The Penguins traded for the rights to Thomas Vokoun. [ Nhl.com ]
The Pittsburgh Penguins have acquired the rights to veteran goaltender Tomas Vokoun from the Washington Capitals in exchange for their seventh-round selection in the upcoming 2012 NHL Draft.Vokoun had to waive a no-movement clause in order for the trade to happen. He becomes an unrestricted free agent July 1.

This move is on the heels of Marc-Andre Fleury having to play 67 games last season, and Brent Johnson being awful.
Vokoun was supposed to be the starter in Washington last season, but things didn't go as planned. He would give the Penguins a huge lift in the back up goaltending department.

In an article for CBS Sports yesterday, Elliotte Friedman wrote that at least part of the reason why the Pittsburgh Penguins made a move to trade for impending UFA Tomas Vokoun and immediately sign the veteran to a two-year contract was that they were competing with the Flyers to acquire the veteran netminder. Ultimately, the Flyers' lack of tagging space until July 1 precluded...
