Nazem Kadri of the Toronto Maple Leafs scored his first goal of the season, and just his fourth of his NHL career, Thursday night against the Buffalo Sabres.

Kadri’s career spans three years and just 34 games with stints with the Toronto Marlies.

Last night’s goal was significant, giving that there’s more expectations for Kadri to be an asset now more than ever before.

Left-winger Clarke MacArthur dropped back while in a trap of three Sabres. Kadri reacted quickly and let loose on the shot, getting that goal against Ryan Miller.

Here’s the video:

Kadri’s sheet: Nazem Kadri, 21, was a first-round draft pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft with the Leafs’ No. 7 selection. He spent his major junior years in the OHL. His first two were with the Kitchener Rangers, scoring 32 goals and tallying 55 assists in those two years. He played 130 games. Then, he spent his final two years with the always impressive London Knights. That’s where he really took off, under the coaching of Dale Hunter, who was recently appointed to head the Washington Capitals.

Less time, but greater numbers defined Kadri in London. He played 112 games — 56 apiece in the 2008-09 seasons. He registered 60 goals in those two years and tallied an impressive 111 assists. He also jumped from 31 penalty minutes to 105 in those years.

Kadri took a few years in the OHL to get to that premiere status. Given enough time, maybe this year is his year in the NHL.
