Now that Jarome Iginla has departed Calgary, teams have stepped up their bidding for defenseman Jay Bouwmeester. Since he has a year remaining on his contract – at $6.6 million – contenders might be willing to spend more for him that they would on a rental player like Iginla. The St. Louis Blues are shopping for a defenseman to pair with Alex Pietrangelo. That team could offer...
Fans came to their feet while tise tribute was played on the scoreboard at the Saddledome tonight. Calgary players also stood and pounded their stcks on the boards.
The Calgary Flames are not a very good team. They have the second worst record in the West Conference. Their future doesn't look any better as most of their key players are aging and approaching free agency. They have few young players with significant potential to take their place.
For the last several years Jarome Iginla has been the heart of the franchise. This week...
Don Cherry gave a spirited pre-Easter "sermon," if you will, on Saturday Night's Coach's Corner, praising John Cooper's first win with the Tampa Bay Lightning, goaltending coach Rick Walmsley's work with the Ottawa Senators, and he adds the usual amount of Leaf-love and then he launches into quite the rant about Jarome Iginla's decision to join the Pittsburgh...

I went to bed last night thinking that my favorite team had received Jarome Iginla in a trade with the Calgary Flames, I woke up this morning to find out that this was not the case. I guess somewhere, there is some humor in this.
The Calgary Flames brought Brian McGrattan over as an enforcer "type" and Patrick Bordeleau found out why. The Colorado Avalanche skater and Flames defenseman went at it in what one of the startled announcers called a "full-time, stand-up hockey brawl."
You don't see many hockey fights with the intensity of this one and, after the two went shot for shot...
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) -- Vinny Prospal had the go-ahead goal and an assist in a four-goal second period to help the Columbus Blue Jackets beat Calgary 6-4 on Friday night in the Flames' first game since they traded longtime captain Jarome Iginla to Pittsburgh
Mark Letestu, Matt Calvert, Derick Brasard, Ryan Johansen and R.J. Umberger also scored for the Blue Jackets. Columbus...
from Scott Mitchell of the Calgary Sun,
Popular opinion says Jay Feaster has been taken to school a couple times over the last 22 months and change.
It started with the Robyn Regehr deal.
It continued during the Ryan O’Reilly saga.
It was cemented with the return for Jarome Iginla.
The Calgary Flames GM has been panned more than a deep-dish pizza.
Paul mentioned that TSN's Darren Dreger told the NHL Network that Jay Bouwmeester might be a "fit" for the Detroit Red Wings, but that the Wings and/or any other team making a post-Iginla trade with the Flames would have to "overpay" in terms of assets, and that the Wings may have to surrender Petr Mrazek (ha!) or Jake Paterson (maybe) to acquire Bouwmeester...
Darren Dreger of TSN was just on the NHL Network and mentioned, as has Bob McKenzie in the past, the Wings would be very interested in Jay Bouwmeester of the Calgary Flames.
He also mentioned the Flames may want one of Detroit'r young goalies and mentoned the names of Petr Mrazek and Jake Patterson.
Bouwmeester has one year left on his contract which pays $6.6M.
