Found October 23, 2013 on Pro Sports Daily:
Very little has gone right so far this year for the Rangers from the injuries that have depleted the team’s attack to the surprisingly erratic play of Henrik Lundqvist and suspect work in front of him by the Blueshirts’ defensemen. The biggest problem however is the team’s inconsistent effort coach Alain Vigneault said. “I do know that my teams compete my teams play hard and they’re hard to play” he said. “We haven’t been that way and it’s my responsibility to get us there.” Vigneault said he has not been happy with the 2-5-0 Rangers’ effort in just two of their seven games. When asked how they can improve on that he simply said: “It’s just about being a professional. “It’s not very hard to understand what I want” Vigneault said. “It’s a matter of them putting the right compete level on the ice. If you do that usually you’re in pretty good shape.” The Rangers it should be noted echoed their new coach before his press conference talking about giving maximum effort

Practice notes: New powerplays/lines, Hank out with “minor” issue

Per Pat Leonard, Henrik Lundqvist did not practice today due to a “minor” issue. In another tweet later, Leonard noted that Alain Vigneault is not 100% certain that Hank can play on Thursday in Philadelphia. Also per Leonard, AV switched up his lines once more, which answers some questions from yesterday’s confusing combos: Chris Kreider-Derek Stepan-Brad Richards Benoit Pouliot...

Backs to the Wall, Rangers Have Chance to Turn Season Around

All signs sure point to another disappointing defeat in a season already long on disappointing defeats. The Rangers, 2-5 on the campaign, will once again be without Rick Nash, Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin, three of the team’s top six forwards, along with franchise goaltender Henrik Lundqvist, all absent due to injury. Even though the […]

Rangers recall Jason Missiaen to backup Talbot tonight

Per Katie Strang, the Rangers have recalled goalie Jason Missiaen from the Hartford Wolfpack. Missiaen will be the backup to Cam Talbot, who is getting the start in net in Philadelphia. Henrik Lundqvist is out tonight, dealing with a “minor” issue. Tweet

Making sense of yesterday’s line combinations

(Andy Clark/Reuters) When the new line combinations were made public knowledge during yesterday’s practice, a lot of questions and a lot of heat were directed at the coach. The top line of Derek Stepan as the pivot between Brad Richards and Chris Kreider made sense. All three defense pairings made sense. But the second, third, and fourth forward lines looked like something out...

Around the Farm: Shorthanded Wolfpack drop first game of season

The Hartford Wolfpack, missing J.T. Miller, Chris Kreider, Brandon Mashinter, and Cam Talbot, lost their first regulation game of the season to the Portland Pirates by a score of 4-2. Danny Kristo and Kyle Jean scored for the Pack, while Michael St. Croix was held off the score sheet in his AHL debut. See below for the scoring lines for all prospects in action in the AHL, OHL, and...

Lundqvist Won’t Dress For Thursday’s Game, But Will Travel

from Andrew Gross of Ranger Rants, Coach Alain Vigneault made Henrik Lundqvist’s absence from Thursday night’s game at Philadelphia official today when he announced his star goalie would not dress for the game as he continues to battle an undisclosed injury. “If this had been a playoff game, he’d probably be playing,” Vigneault said. “It’s something that...

Still “No Change” Regarding Rick Nash’s Concussion

from Andrew Gross of The Record, With each passing day of silence, the questions grow louder when it comes to Rick Nash. Not so much when the Rangers' elite right wing will return from his latest concussion, because any absence due to concussion is, by definition, indefinite. But, there is scientific evidence each successive concussion heightens the chances of another...

Henrik Lundqvist out tomorrow

Per Steve Zipay, Henrik Lundqvist will not play tomorrow in Philadelphia. Hank missed yesterday’s practice with what was deemed a “minor” issue, but apparently it is enough to keep him out of tomorrow’s game. Cam Talbot will make his NHL debut tomorrow. Tweet

Wolfpack recall Brendon Nash; Sign Sam Klassen to PTO

The Hartford Wolfpack added a pair of defensemen today, recalling Brendon Nash from the ECHL and signing Sam Klassen to a PTO. Nash was originally sent to the ECHL three days ago when the Pack recalled Michael St. Croix. Klassen, originally an undrafted UFA signed by the Rangers in 2009, has played 114 games for the Whale/Wolfpack over three years. The 6’2, 200-lb defenseman signed...

Musings: Are the Flyers coming at the right time?

Boyle. Well, now that the Rangers roster looks more like an AHL club, tonight’s game is a sure fire win, no? This is a quick Musings, and a pretty negative one generally. Buckle down folks. Here’s hoping better news arrives tonight! Cam Talbot. How he deals with the expectancy and pressure tonight will be very telling to his potential. He doesn’t have the safety blanket of...

Game 8: Play well?

Photo: Bill Kostroun The Rangers are in Philly tonight to take on the Flyers. Luckily for New York, Philly is all sorts of bad right now. If it weren’t for the Flyers, the Rangers would be the worst team in the Metro Division, and the only team in the NHL not in Buffalo under five points for the season. This is a tremendous opportunity for the Rangers, but they will need to get...

October 24th, 1993, Madison Square Garden, NY:  After two straight lackluster performances against inferior teams, the Rangers returned home looking to put an end to a three game losing streak.  Their opponent on this night was much tougher than the previous two.  The Rangers hosted a Los Angeles Kings team less than a year removed from reaching the […]

Rangers-Flyers Preview

When looking at the numbers, it isn't hard to figure out why the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers are two of the worst teams in the NHL. They're having a hard time scoring, mustering shots on goal and stopping opponents from putting the puck in the net - a recipe for disaster that has these teams reeling heading into Thursday night's matchup in Philadelphia....

Afternoon Line

“We can’t say 100 percent sure he’s going to be good to go on Thursday, but I can’t say 100 percent he’s not going to be. He’s getting better. He’s got something he’s been dealing with for a little bit of time, and since we had four days between games, we figured it was the right time to try to nip this in the bud.” -New York Rangers head coach Alain Vigneault...
