The New Jersey Devils have proven all the critics wrong. Again. I’m curious to know, what I’ll witness first. NHL insiders picking the Devils to finish atop of the East/Atlantic or Rick DiPietro on IR again? I’ll go with the latter. The Devils have amassed some great accolades since their move from Colorado to NJ since the 1982-1983 season. More noteworthy, was the stud team the Devils developed that notched plenty of successful seasons between 1994 & 2003. They won 3 Stanley Cups in those 9 seasons and made 4 Stanley Cup Final appearances (1 was back to back versus Dallas & Colorado). There was discussion that if the Devils were able to oust the Avalanche in 2001, dynasty would have been in the script. The New Jersey Devils have created a culture for playoff hockey. Winning is expected from the front office, down through the coaching staff, and to the players on the ice. You can clearly see that with the departure of one HOF defenseman, Larry Robinson, and introduction of a...

The Devils Continue To Win

from Damien Cox of The Spin, They came into the season as the most disrespected Stanley Cup finalist in modern NHL history. Nobody, but nobody looked at the New Jersey Devils when the NHL and union finally worked out their differences and imagined they would be a serious Stanley Cup contender. No matter that the Devils were the class of the Eastern Conference last season...

Devils’ resiliency among Friedman’s ‘30 Thoughts’

Update: Whoops, wrong blog! Sorry! The CBC's Elliotte Freidman's penned another excellent "30 Thoughts" column, and he leads the affair off by duly noting that the rumors of the New Jersey Devils' Zach Parise-less demise were at least slightly exaggerated: The New Jersey Devils lost Zach Parise for nothing and we were quick to write them off. Boy, do we...

New Jersey Devils: The Last Exorcism

By Mike Luciano (@MikeLuci) Despite coming up short in the Stanley Cup Finals last season, New Jersey Devils head coach Pete DeBoer said one of the big pluses of the Devils remarkable playoff run were the playoff demons they exorcised along the way. Their first round triumph over the Florida Panthers snapped a postseason advancement drought that’s stretched back to 2008. Their...

The more things change, the more things stay the same. Game 12 Scoring Chances: Hurricanes at Devils

The Hurricanes managed to pull out a 4-2 win over the New Jersey Devils last night and they did it on the back of one of their weakest offensive performances of the young season. The Devils held Carolina to only nine scoring chances at even strength and 12 overall, which are season lows for the Hurricanes this season. New Jersey is also only the third team this season to outchance...

And The Award Goes To

from Scott Burnside of ESPN, And so, without further ado, some first-quarter superlatives and, well, whatever the opposite of a superlative might be: Dominating Performance By A Non-Star Player David Clarkson, New Jersey Devils Clarkson might have played in the shadows of Zach Parise, Ilya Kovalchuk and Martin Brodeur as the Devils went to the Stanley Cup finals in...

End of an Era: NHL’s New CBA Closes Player Contract Loophole

In 2006, Rick DiPietro was poised to become the next great American goaltender.  Just six years (and countless injuries) later, his fifteen-year contract has become a sterling example of the type of contract the NHL now forbids.  Aside from absurd duration, under the previous collective bargaining agreement (CBA), teams could also aggressively structure these multi-year deals to...
