A player who the Washington Capitals traded to the Winnipeg Jets in July 2011 for prospect Danick Paquette and a 2012 fourth-round draft pick (Thomas DiPauli) is coming home. According to the Washington Post's Katie Carrera and Washinton Times' Stephen Whyno, the Caps are set to sign right-winger Eric Fehr on Sunday, pending the completion of a medical. The deal will be for one year at $600,000. Fehr, a one-time 59 goal scorer in the Western Hockey League, was drafted by the Caps in the first-round of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft, going on to play parts of six seasons with the team before his trade. In 230 career games with the organization, Fehr scored 46 goals and 93 points, including a 21-goal, 39-point 2009-10 campaign. He had become an unrestricted free agent this summer after the Jets declined to offer him a qualifying offer. The Manitoba-native struggled with injuries with the Jets last year, managing just three points in 35 games, but rediscovered his...

Capitals adjusting to new coach Oates

The Washington Capitals are back on the ice and adjusting to new coach Adam Oates virtually on the fly. Washington opens the season on Saturday at Tampa Bay, giving Oates just six practices and a scrimmage to install his system, which is a cross between Bruce Boudreau's up-tempo scheme and successor Dale Hunter's defensive-oriented game plan. Winger Matt Hendricks said...

Alex Ovechkin stars in bizarre new Gillette commercial

This new commercial from Gillette starring Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin is completely bizarre.  Now maybe if I understood Russian or there were some subtitles, it would seem less strange, but I highly doubt it.Ovechkin got a new deal with Gillette in late 2012 that runs until 2014 and is virtually the same as his old one.  The only update is that he can now have...

Many NHL defensemen are striving to get back to top form this season, but perhaps no player has as far to travel as Mike Green. From 2008-10, Green scored 50 goals and racked up 149 points for the Washington Capitals. But then multiple injuries and the decline of the Capitals power play rendered him a shell of his former self.Last season he scored just seven points in 32 games â€...

Caps Welcome Back Eric Fehr The Capitals announced a signing yesterday as they opened up training camp, bringing back former 2003 18th overall pick, Eric Fehr, on a one-year $600k deal. Steven Hindle: Does Ovechkin's Success Depend on Backstrom's Health?

Dynamic (when healthy) Duo The return of Alex Ovechkin to Washington earned plenty of headlines and attention, yet that of Nicklas Backstrom was far more subdued. With Backstrom seeing a specialist about a neck injury suffered in the KHL, worry began to spread that the young Swede was once again dealing with concussion-related problems. So, instead of focused columns...
