It’s been the Philipp Grubauer show for the past month in DC, and Braden Holtby has seen just four games in that time. But he made the most of his time in net tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets. On a night where both Grubauer, and the team didn’t look anything like the Capitals that fans are used to seeing (you know the ones that won?) Holtby was called on tonight to relieve the German-born rookie and was tested often, mostly by Jackets forward and 24-year old Matt Calvert. But Calvert soon found out what the rest of Washington has already known: Braden Holtby protects the net! Calvert wristed a shot on goal, a shot that looked like it was all but in, that is until HoltBeast took over, saving the puck with the knob of his stick! Okay so it wasn’t his flashiest save, and it no where near rivals the save Grubi made against the Lightning last week when he went splits up, but it was the only good thing to happen in tonight’s 5-1 drubbing. Heck I’ll even argue that Calvert just plain missed, but a save is a save. I mean the net was starting to look like a coal bin tonight! Anyways check it out; HoltBeast’s “miraculous” save

Blue Jackets carry hot streak into Buffalo

Cam Atkinson and Sergei Bobrovsky are big reasons why the Columbus Blue Jackets are on the cusp of matching the longest winning streak in franchise history. Only one of them, however, may be on the ice to try helping the team re-write the record book. While Bobrovsky's status is unknown, Atkinson will look to continue his scoring barrage when the visiting Blue Jackets go for...

Blue Jackets recall Dalton Prout to back up Tyutin

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- The Columbus Blue Jackets have recalled defenseman Dalton Prout from their American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Mass. Prout may fill in for Fedor Tyutin, who missed Thursday's practice with an undisclosed illness. The 23-year-old Prout has two assists, 31 penalty minutes and 41 blocked shots in 25 games with Columbus this season. He had a goal...

Blue Jackets Edge Sabres -- Climb Above the Line

Well, OK, it's Buffalo, not New York City, but it's still New York and it is a frigid Saturday night. The SNL analogy seems particularly appropriate tonight, as just over 19,000 souls, including several dozen Blue Jackets fans bussed in for the occasion, witnessed a hockey game that reached comic proportions in turnovers, miscues and trashed opportunities. Think Abbott...

Three Takeaways from the Blue Jackets 5-1 win over Washington

One: One of the keys going into this game for Columbus was to limit the Capitals power play opportunities. The Blue Jackets penalty kill was perfect, with the Caps going 0-4. Conversely, Columbus' special teams play did very well, going 2-4 on the power play. The win gives them 5 wins in-a-row and 6 wins in their last 7 games, coinciding with Nathan Horton getting into the lineup...

Ryan Johansen scored the only goal in the shootout and the Columbus Blue Jackets extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. The winning streak matches the longest in franchise history set on April 3, 2006. Brandon Dubinsky, David Savard and Matt Calvert scored in regulation for Columbus. Sergei Bobrovsky made 26 saves...

Blue Jackets try for fifth straight victory

Their longest winning streak of the season has the Columbus Blue Jackets gaining confidence. The Washington Capitals are also on the verge of matching a season-high streak - something they would prefer to avoid. Seeking their fifth consecutive victory Friday night, the host Blue Jackets look to end a five-game losing streak to the Capitals, who will be trying to avert a season high...

Horton finds a home with Columbus Blue Jackets

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- It's three hours until the puck drops for the game between the Tampa Bay Lightning and Columbus Blue Jackets. And there, all by himself in the massive arena, is Nathan Horton in a dark T-shirt, shorts and black cross-training shoes, sliding around on the ice and slapping pucks back and forth off the side boards. "I enjoy coming to the rink," he...

Blue Jackets’ Ryan Johansen dekes eight times, scores on Ryan Miller (VIDEO)

YouTube Blue Jackets forward Ryan Johansen went right, left, right, left, right, left, right and left before bringing it back right and shooting it past Sabres goalie Ryan Miller for the winning goal in Saturday’s shootout. Eight dekes, one goal.  That’s a lot of work.

The Three-Headed Monster in Goal

If the organization feels that Philipp Grubauer is a capable NHL start or backup, why rush into anything? If they are showcasing him for a trade, a far less likely option, all they have done is upset Braden Holtby and Michal Neuvirth.
