from Pierre LeBrun of ESPN,
As far as first impressions go in this young NHL season, Jacob Trouba certainly opened some eyes.
The 19-year-old rookie blueliner from Michigan played a whopping 25:02 in his first NHL game on Tuesday night. Oh, and he had a goal and an assist with a plus-2 rating in Winnipeg’s season-opening win at Edmonton.
But what impressed me the most was the poise he played with.
"We certainly hope that that trend continues, and that’s what we saw in preseason," Jets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff told ESPN.com Friday. "And he got better every preseason game. He played high minutes in each of those games. The coaching staff tried to expose him in preseason to the other team’s best players to try and gauge where he was at. That was good. And obviously the first game, you don’t want to get too far ahead of yourself, but it was nice for all parties involved to see, for sure."

We are just two days into the NHL season and with the sample size so small the scene is ripe for overreaction, however, it was hard not to notice the standout performance of 19 year old rookie Jacob Trouba.

No one is suggesting the Winnipeg Jets alert the NHL's trophy engraver just yet especially after such a teeny-tiny sample.
But if the ol' carver was watching the Jets' 5-4 opening-night win over the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday you can bet he or she was jotting the name down as a reminder:
Yes the Jets' young defenceman couldn'...
Jacob Trouba was miffed when it was relayed to him that Edmonton Oilers forward Taylor Hall suggested he was headhunting during a body checking attempt during the third period of Tuesday’s 5-4 victory.
“I don’t know I didn’t even hit him. How is that headhunting?” said Trouba a rookie defenceman with the Winnipeg Jets. “It was a one-on-one from what I remember. I don’t...

The Winnipeg Jets have never opened up a season at home with a notch in the win column. They have also only had two chances and both of those games were the first of the season. That being said there is some excitement and trepidation about what will happen with the Jets tonight as they host the LA Kings.
The only meeting between the two teams...

from Scott Burnside of ESPN,
Selanne broke into the NHL in 1992 with the Winnipeg Jets. On that first opening nights, the Jets hosted Detroit in a game they would win and Selanne would collect a couple of assists.
“I remember it very well. We played against Detroit at home and that was something obviously I was dreaming about since I was little boy, so yeah, it was...

Today it was announced that Jason Pominville signed a 5-year extension for the same cap hit as Blake Wheeler of the Winnipeg Jets. I didnât think much of it at first until I heard the number for the cap hit 5.6 million per season.
There is some reason to really compare the players, they are right-wingers and now they are division rivals on two teams that have struggled to make the post...
