It appears as though disgruntled Edmonton Oilers defenceman Sheldon Souray will play hockey in 2010-2011 after all. According to TSN.ca, the Oilers have loaned the 34-year-old to the American Hockey League’s Hershey Bears. Hershey, however, is not the Oilers affiliate, but the Washington Capitals’. With the move, the Oilers are not able to trade Souray or play him without him clearing re-entry waivers. He has already been placed on and cleared waivers twice this off-season. He is the second high profile defenceman to be sent to the AHL in the last two weeks, as the Rangers sent Wade Redden to Hartford on September 27th. In 650-career regular season games, Souray has scored 96 goals and 166 assists, a total of 262 points. He has played in 11 NHL seasons, appearing in games for the New Jersey Devils, Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers. Also according to TSN.ca, the Vancouver Canucks completed a second trade.
